My boy cat is really beating my girl cat up 😩

He’s 2, she is nearly 2.

He has been done.

Normally they are absolutely fine but the past few weeks he has been play fighting to hard which goes in to him attacking her and pulling chunks of fur out. She has got a red sore patch on the back of her neck now.

Any ideas why he is doing this?

Has she been done? Sounds like he's trying to mate with her.

Is she spayed too? If she's unseasoned he will still try and mate her

Feliway can really help in these situations - get plugins for the house. Pricey but worth it. I had 3 at a time - one for landing, one for hallway and one for the room they spend most of their time in.

My two cats are 2 and 1 and the 2 yo has been very fighty and a bit of a bully lately. It’s just social maturation. I plugged multiple feliways in. They still rough and tumble but can be around each other peacefully too. When I see him being too much I distract him with a play session.

Hi @Janetsoldshoes - if you report your own thread to MNHQ they can move it to the 'Litter Tray' board, there are loads of experienced cat owners on there.

I'm assuming they are both neutered and they both have access to the outdoors. Either of them may have some kind of underlying health condition, so I think you should take them to the vet to rule that out.

Feliway do plug-ins for multi cat households, so try that, and also make sure they have separate litter trays, separate sleeping areas, and that she has a bolthole to escape from him if she needs to. It would also be worth keeping them well apart at mealtimes.

Random thought - is she spending time in someone else's house at all, or mingling with other cats? She could smell different when she comes home, and that might be causing his aggression towards her.

My sibling cats are the same. Doesn't help that he's more than double the size of her. I do split them up but quite often notice he'll have a scratched nose, or a bloody ear and realise she can probably stick up for herself as she never has injuries. She's just very loud and screams at him which probably makes it worse. I'd like to say they'll grow out of it but mine are 5 and show no signs of stopping. Luckily they have more nice moments than bad though!
