Universal credit

This is my first post so not sure if I'm posting in the right place. But any help ot advice is welcomed!
I was receiving universal credit for myself and my daughter. We moved in with my partner (daughters dad) in April so done a joint UC claim, he is self employed but works for a company and works 5 days a week. Today he had his appointment to verify his self employment and show proof etc all that was fine.
My daughter is 2 and I'm 19 weeks pregnant with our second child. Payment was overdue by 2 weeks, my partner had to fill out an income form on his journal and then uc statement came back saying we are entitled to £0 without taking into consideration that my partner has to pay rent, council tax, electric, petrol, other bills from his wage.. I now have no money whatsoever.. after my partner pays all his bills and everything from his pay, what he has left over is not enough to support us all and do weekly food shopping and get things that our 2 year old needs. My partner asked at the appointment dont you need to know my monthly expenses like rent and bills and the man said no. I have no incoming money at all now. What can I do? I'm so stressed out, I have my own bills to pay. Where do I stand?

It could either be a mistake or that his income is too high for you to have an entitlement.

Have you tried the "Entitled to" calculator to see whether you have an entitlement?

Is he open about his finances with you?

Housing costs (rent) should figure in the equation, though.

As a first step, put a message in your journal saying you tried to give rent details and would like to add them now.

How much does he earn?

What does it say on the statement? A lot of people on FB have said their children haven't been included

Self employed on UC is a bit of a nightmare . They want monthly accounts which for smaller self employed it is really hard to do on a monthly basis

He is very open about his finances.
I will give the entitled to a go see what it says and will defo take your advice and leave a message on my journal in regards to the rent details

That's what my partner has to do every month also log his income monthly.

If it's not a new business they will be calculating your award using the minimum income floor, regardless of what he actually earns.
Which is basically minimum wage x full time hours.
Are you working?
Check the breakdown on your statement to make sure all elements are included; housing, child.

liverpoolgal82 · 01/06/2024 19:46

Every business gets 12 months no minimum floor so they won’t be using minimum floor income yet, but perhaps they’ve not added your housing money or verified your child yet. Do you want to list the elements they have put and I can see if it’s right or not. Do you private rent? How much income did he put through for his first AP? Did he minus his business expenses?
if you’re happy to list what they have given then I’ll check it over for you and tell you what you should have and if it’s correct. You should have a joint standard allowance. Housing element . Child element . If renting then there’s a work allowance of £404 so minus that from income then times the difference by 0.55 - that’ll be the amount they deduct from your award to get your final figure. Do any of you receive carers? Is your child receiving any disability payments? Have they added a transitional payment?

Every business does not get a year off MIF. Or shouldn't anyway.
It's only if it's a new business and you are trying to build it up. It's literally called a Start Up Period and is reviewed every 3 months to ensure the business is starting to make some profit.
An established business would go straight into MIF.

You will qualify for a start up period if

You have not previously been gainfully self-employed while claiming Universal Credit and
you are taking active steps to increase your self employment earnings.

We have just switched over to UC and my husband has been self employed 30 years and has just had the mif suspended for 12 months.

So many work coaches are giving out incorrect info and if you don’t know then you don’t question it

liverpoolgal82 · 02/06/2024 11:21

In the early days of migration that was the case and many work coaches maybe didn’t have their documents updated

liverpoolgal82 · 02/06/2024 11:23

And if people are going in saying they can’t increase hours etc then that puts them outside the eligibility criteria - as they are not taking steps to increase their self employment earnings

liverpoolgal82 · 02/06/2024 11:28

Also your child is under 3 so no mif until 3
