Did giving up upf help with weight loss?

I've decided 2 days ago to give up upfs in the hope that it will reduce my cravings and lead to lovely weight loss.
Will this happen?

I'm also doing intermittent fasting.

I'm not planning on cutting out treats if they're homemade but that's only every now and then.

Good luck, its trial and error working out what causes cravings but once you shut them down it does make things easier

I got huge by eating mainly non UPFs, just too much of everything and far too liberal with the cream, oil and butter (which I do still love), along with cheese. Nuts, the list goes on.

I do cook cakes myself and find it hard to limit myself, so its not UPFs I struggle with, its everything! I will try to cook them sporadically

Hmm hasn't helped me so far but in fairness I already ate very little in the way of cakes, biscuits, sweets etc anyway. My downfall is portion size...and wine!!

In a word. Yes.

I.F. helps too. Start off with 8:16 and gradually move the window to eventually end up at 6:18. Eat only natural nutritious food during your eating window and absolutely no snacking outside of the window. I have nutritious drinks when fasting. A glass of water with chia seeds, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and fused with celtic sea salt will satiate you and fend off cravings.

Yes, because upf is generally less satiating and engineered to make you want to eat more and more of it. If you eat whole foods and prioritise protein, it’s easier not to overeat. It’s still a matter of calories in/out, which is why intermittent fasting works by narrowing your eating window, but whatever tools you find useful will help.

I'm sure it'll make me feel better and I already do. I'm just hoping for weight loss.
I am eating less. The hardest thing for me is not eating bread but in a way that's the best thing too. It forces me to make better decisions.

Try Jason's protein sourdough. Use only grass fed butter. (Kerrygold) Restrict yourself to one slice per day.

NDmumoftwo · 01/06/2024 16:41

No. Processing is really helpful for weight loss as it can help provide flavour and bulk without having to ingest fat and sugar. Eat less, exercise more.

Beepbeepvroomvroom · 01/06/2024 16:42

It depends what you diet was like before. You just still need to mindful of what you’re eating e.g if you start baking your own traybakes/cakes and bread instead of buying it then it’s easy to over eat it if it’s there! Also same for over eating butter, cream etc. all much better for you that the UPF versions just still need to eat in moderation. Go for high good fats, less refined carbs and sugar.

Citrusandginger · 01/06/2024 16:52

Yes, but to be completely honest along with a healthier diet generally.

I'm eating more vegetables and whole grains, so filling up on lower calorie foods.

I'm consuming a lot less sugar and no artificial sweeteners at all. I consciously avoid high calorie desserts and by avoiding artificial sweeteners, I'm no longer craving the sweet stuff and have stopped diving in the biscuit draw multiple times a day.

StarShipControl · 01/06/2024 17:09

My diet wasn't too bad but too much carbs really. Mainly bread and often crisps. I like cheese and crackers.
Now no bread, crisps or crackers. Unless homemade but that won't happen too often.

Organic Sourdough is good if you need upf free bread. It's a bit chewy and needs to be toasted. Freezes quite well too.

mountaingoatsarehairy · 01/06/2024 17:32

Yes deffo but hadn’t weighed myself but clothes felt looser quite quick. And I didn’t eat much upf to begin with. Also finds it helps eat less as not much you can actually eat if avoiding upfs so I tend to eat fruit and one home cooked meal a day.

keep going!

I gave up upfs just before Easter and have lost 7kgs. Having said that I have pretty much given up wheat - no pasta, german rye bread rather than sourdough, seed cookies rather than biscuits etc. I'm actually eating more as I used to do OMAD and now eat lunch and supper. I've significantly increased my protein intake and cook a lot of food from The Doctors Kitchen which is pretty healthy but tastes great.
