Does your lasagne have a pasta sheet "floor"?

Just that!

Saw a tip online saying "spread a thin layer of tomato sauce onto the bottom of the dish so the pasta doesn't stick".... 🫨

In 30 years of making lasagne I've never put a floor in & curious as to whether I've been missing out all this time 😅
(To the point I've just made the sauce and may experiment, but wondered if I've been committing a misdemeanour this whole time. Sorry Italians if I have!)

No

I'm so confused at the people saying pasta at the bottom with a little sauce to stop it sticking, doesn't that make it sauce at the bottom? 😂

Tranne qui in Puglia.

Certo...ma lasagne pugliesi non sono vere lasagne! 😆

I put passata, or bechamel in the roasting tin, then the mince mixed with Ragu, which usually contains onions, courgettes and peppers. Bechamel on top of that, pasta sheets and repeat to total 3 or 4 strata. Topped with bechamel and any grated cheese to hand.

Does everyone fry the mince with onions and mix the Ragu in when done, or am I a food criminal?

Anyway, pasta on the bottom does, I agree, make it easier to serve and to keep on a plate in the fridge.

Ah, you're one of those.
And the smiley doesn't negate the insult.

Erm...it was a joke because I know you don't like Bologna!

Lasagne should stand up by itself so you need a proper floor, mince on the bottom doesnt provide for this

When I put the bechamel and pasta in first, it burned slightly and the pasta went crispy at the edges. Not so nice
There's a very expensive Michelin- starred restaurant that sells just the crispy edge of the lasagne!

Gosh! I've been doing it all wrong. Just think, I could have made it the "bad" way and charged the kids £60 per portion 😁

First layer is the "meat or meat substitute"

bloodyeffinnora · 01/06/2024 10:11

I used to do mince first, but then started putting pasta sheets first after greasing dish with oil first, it seems to hold the lasagne together better when you're dishing out.

Nope.
