C section recovery and moving house?

Hi all

so I am due a C section in less than a week and also need to move house asap due to being in catchment for a terrible school and wanting to move next to the best school in time for October applications.

Long story short - there was a goodchance we could get into another more remote school without moving house but this is now looking dicey and we don’t want to take any risks.

weve spoken to estate agent who will put us on market straight away… I’m wondering advice from those who have had a c section - will I be okay to sit in car whilst viewers look round? Will I be okay mentally and still bond with baby and enjoy the newborn period? I’m quite anxious about it all and have an older child too. however I don’t want to leave it and find we can’t sell in time.

thanks in advance!

I'm not sure there is any point viewing houses to buy until you have had an offer on yours. You can look of course but most sellers wouldn't accept if you hadn't sold yours.

Sorry read it wrong. You mean to keep out of the way while people are viewing your house. Why not just sit on the sofa. I had viewing on our house when I had a newborn on just sat on sofa while the estate agent showed them around.

The difficult bit was all the tidying I had to do before the viewing.

I think you will be fine for the viewing as they are only short, it will be the tidying and cleaning that is more annoying as viewings are sometimes short notice. Can you give the agent a day that you will do all viewings? Would mean you only have to tidy once.

when do you think I’ll be ready to manage that after a C section?

The thing is it's pretty hard to judge after my first c section I felt more or less back to normal by day ten. I could clean the house perfectly fine. After my second it was a bit longer. I certainly wouldn't plan any viewing for the first ten days to two weeks though unless you can rely on someone else to get your house ready for you.

Do you think it’s essential that we clean and tidy house for every viewing?

also, from your experience, how long roughly does it take to sell and complete?

Everybody is different. My C-section knocked me back for six- I could manage short bursts of physical energy and then needed a lie down with the baby. I would've been in no fit state to manage the constant tidying up for viewings. And this is if things go well and there are no health complications. Csection recovery depends on plenty of rest and recuperation- don't jeopardise that. They'll be cutting through 7 layers of skin to get the baby out- that shit needs time to heal.

Of course it's necessary to clean and have a tidy house for viewings If you want your house to sell quickly!

Our last sale and purchase took 6 months. I know others who've completed much sooner. Again, it depends on so many factors.

Ellerby83 · 31/05/2024 09:31

We have bought and sold three times and it took 3 months 4 months and 4 1/2 months.

I’m @Boohoo123456 I’m 6 weeks from my C-section and can manage light housework but still being careful of lifting and hoovering. Struggled most with bending so picking up from the floor to tidy, emptying dishwasher, cleaning bathrooms etc. Dusting and washing up were ok. I couldn’t do much at all for the first couple of weeks. Plus my baby cries if I put him down 😂
