Have just been reading the let's not meet subreddit. Luckily I have never been in a situation like that but just wondering if anyone else has?

Possibly, probably, maybe. If so I've forgotten it and moved on. I'm not obsessed with finding "creepiness" everywhere.

NormalForNorfoIk · 31/05/2024 07:48

OP what are you hoping to get out of this thread that you didn't already get from Reddit?

Suppose I just found it interesting and made me consider how I would react in those situations.

I don't agree that the people who have posted those experiences or those who have read them are all "obsessed with finding creepiness everywhere" I certainly aren't. I was just interested in the stories.

I went to a Wetherspoons, and ordered myself a glass of wine. A guy was watching me, and followed me to my table. He kept on about how he was a high earner, and was wanting "some fun" (he said he was married). I also said I was vulnerable and at that moment was a missing person ( I have MH issues, and at that time, my ex had reported me missing to the police... I was genuinely missing and high risk person at that time.).
When I went to the bar again, he asked the staff to get my drink. I said no (and they did too).
I left and went elsewhere. He turned up there too, and sat with me. I mentioned him to the staff, and they laughed at me.
I ended up leaving but by then the police had found me anyway... but my god, he was so insistent. i am no looker. I am obese, missing teeth, and at the time was a dishevelled mess. He was scary.

When I was 12 a man in a white van followed me when I was walking to my Auntie's house. I noticed it pass me by at least 3 times and thought it was weird. Then when I was I walking along the cemetery road it had a small layby just ahead of me and he pulled into it. I have never had such a strong gut reaction/feeling of fear before. I crossed over the road because there was a teenage boy on that side and the van sped off. There was no way I was walking past it.

It could have been that he was lost and looking at a map or something (this was 1997) but my gut was telling me to stay away from him.

I used to live in New Cross. Too close to the station to get a taxi from the station after a night out but still a bit dark and creepy once you got off the main road. I felt like I was being followed and so I crossed the road. He crossed the road. So then I crossed the road and ran. I was not hanging around. Luckily for me, someone kept forgetting to close the external door to the flats I lived in and I was able to just push the door open without fumbling for a key.

Second time I thought it might be happening I stopped a random couple and said can I pretend to be your fiend while this man walks past.

Me and a friend were followed out of a pub about 10pm by a male who was probably double our age. We only realised when we stopped and the man stopped a few feet behind us. We power walked to the bus station but unfortunately there was no one there so we ran to the local shopping centre where the cinema was still open and hid behind a pop up stall till he passed us and then legged it bag to the pub to get a cab. Thinking about it now it could've been quite dangerous.

Another time I was walking home from a night out in the early hours and a car was following me slowly so I walked down the nearest road and a few houses in walked up to the door and ducked down their side alley. I stayed there for probably 20 mins so I was sure the car wasn't still following me then rang my bro to meet me.

When I was a police officer I was on my rest day and took the kids to the local park.

There was an incredibly handsome groundskeeper there and we caught each others eye. He actually came over and said hello, we had some chitchat and despite being very good looking, his eyes were dead and he just gave me this huge "off" feeling in my stomach.

I remember making an excuse to leave and rounding the kids up and my hands were shaking and I had absolutely no idea why because he didn't say anything that was out of the ordinary.

A few weeks later I was at work and I was tasked with transporting a suspect straight from the cells to court - serious offence, no bail options.

There he was in the back of my van. He was accused of putting a hammer through his wife's head.

The sad fact of it is that most women will have at least one story to tell.

When I was 10/11 last year of primary school , me and my best friend were given money and dropped off for a gym class at a hall.

This was on a local high street.

It wasn't long before we decided we d rather spend the money on chips and stand and chat for an hour .there were shops and it was quite a busy area with cars but not loads walking about at that time .

We are 2 pre teens standing about in gym gear that wasn't tight or cropped

There was a guy maybe 30 pacing up and down . After about 10 mins . He had undone his flies and had an erection sticking through. This progressed to him touching it while still pacing .

By this time we had moved to the phone box and we're just holding it waiting to call the police .

At this point he walked over, he got as far as saying " are you " , we screamed in his face and he ran away .

I always remember his face fell like this was a completely unreasonable reaction we d had .

We then did call the police and had to confess to parents we hadn't been going to the aerobic class .
