Posting here for traffic. Apparently it's a rare chronic skin condition and I've been diagnosed with it today. (Another one to add to my list of chronic conditions).

Yep.
Seemingly it’s not uncommon for women to develop it in menopause, however I do also have a number of other chronic health conditions.

The best advice I got was on here. It was to ignore the instructions from the GP (daily for a month, every other day for a month, weekly for a month iirc) and just apply the steroid cream morning and night for two weeks and (in my case as it’s vulval) to use a mirror to make sure it’s applied, and sticking to, the correct area. Life changing. I had previously been applying it for 3 months with little effect. After two weeks it was gone. It has flared up 3 times since but always quickly soothed and resolved using this method.

Thank you!! I'll try doing that from today

My advice would be to start a thread or look on the menopause section.

a lot of women have had this issue once menopause starts also vaginal atrophy is common too although different but lots of women end up not knowing specifically so there should be threads that talk about both within it.

then there’s people like me who have lots of symptoms but no diagnosis so there will definitely be a few discussions over there but you might need to be a bit generic in the search to find them as like I say not all will have lichen sclerosis in the title.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

Thank you! I've posted there too. Looking at photos and presentation I think there was a chance I was misdiagnosed.

Which would be fine except my GP gave me a tiny tube of cream and has refused to do a repeat. Six months on. I've been given Gina for a month, then double care gel for a month, in-between refusals I've relied on sudocreme. I'm now on blissel after asking for Ovestin as advised by mumsnetters, plus sudocreme.

I tell you I could get hold of marijuana, cocaine, crystal meth more easily than something for my nether regions or a GP all diagnosis has been done over the phone anyway.
