Help finding cheap/free furniture

Helpinghand331 · 30/05/2024 07:59

Morning. I'm trying to find a Furniture charity type place in Croydon area. That helps people who are struggling and can't afford Furniture. I have been trying to Google but I keep getting British heart foundation and simlar. Theses are way to expensive.

I looked at ebay/free cycle just incase. But theses don't really work as we have no transport . No one to help and people want collection only .

We are trying to look in the Croydon area or close by .

Any suggestions of places I could try .

Or post on the local board. I'm sure lots of people have odd bits of furniture they are happy to get rid of.

Facebook pass it on page for your local area might be an option, but people do usually want you to collect.

If you can line up lots if different pieces of free furniture to collect on the same day, it might be worth the cost of hiring a man with a van?

Someone's already given you this, but the trick is for you to also nominate her. https://www.reviveandrecycle.org.uk/who-we-help/

How about Freecycle? You can also ask for items.

Elleherd · 30/05/2024 21:04

Helpinghand you both can. You can use it to refer her, effectively backing up the need as you're clearly aware there is one.

It's also worth putting an ad on Trash Nothing, explaining clearly that you know it's an ask but person is without transport, and give a location within three streets.
I've happily delivered free stuff to people when they've been upfront and just stated it as part of a need and a fact of circumstance rather than a demand IYKWIM. One of my DC has also taken someone something on a sack barrow when we realized they were a couple of streets from us.

Have you heard of 'buy nothing' groups? Get on Facebook and see if there is one in your area. People share things and everything is free. I've got and given all sorts on there including furniture

Motherrr · 30/05/2024 21:22

^buyer typically collects but sometimes people offer to drop off to those in need

ManilowBarry · 30/05/2024 21:50

NextDoor and Freecycle.

caringcarer · 30/05/2024 21:53

Do you have the Neighbours app?

CJ0374 · 30/05/2024 21:59

Sbd it's very difficult ti .... What does SBD mean?

Join nextdoor.com in your area. Both requesting freebies, but I've seen requests to collect items before too.
