Kids party geniuses of MN - help me think of hot tub party games

YaMuvva · 29/05/2024 08:41

DD is 11 tomorrow. She wanted a grown up party so I’ve got a hot tub coming today, a beautician coming on the day and she’s having 5 friends over.

Im shit at thinking of games and stuff so can anyone suggest any party games for the hot tub that meet the following criteria:

  • Requires me to sit on my bum doing nothing
  • Will not make 11yo DD cringe
  • Will let 6 11yo’s think this is the coolest party they’ve ever been to
TIA

Shameless bump!

It sounds like this is a grown up party, so why would you want games at all. Surely making some fancy mocktails so they feel grown up and keeping an eye from a distance to give them time together js what they would want?

Lighteningkip · 29/05/2024 09:45

Glow sticks with the connectors so you can make glasses etc are always fun in a hot tub.

11 year olds are unlikely to want games

Mocktail station.
Charcuterie board
Chocolate fountain.

OMGitsnotgood · 29/05/2024 09:50

I was also going to suggest setting up a mocktail bar - very grown up in keeping with the rest of the party. If you buy plastic glasses they can drink them in the hot tub. I think they will just want to enjoy the hot tub for a place to chat and giggle.

icelollycraving · 29/05/2024 09:50

I’d say making mocktails, ordering pizzas and maybe something like Just Dance set up do they can have a bit of a dance if they want. Get your dd to organise a playlist on Spotify.
Is the hot tub in a covered area if it rains?
What about one of those igloo pods so it’s all set up out there?

YaMuvva · 29/05/2024 09:51

Mocktail bar sounds good!
Im ordering a Domino’s at some point too.
DD is fine with games, I’m not talking pin the tail on the donkey or any babyish games.

Games would make it childish unless you’re suggesting stuff like drinking games with plastic shot glasses and mocktails/soft drinks ?

Yes the hire company is bringing a canopy

Good call on Just Dance I’m sure we have the game somewhere!

A really good playlist on a great sound system
A bubble machine could be fun/provide good photo ops
Something like this https://amzn.eu/d/2quLOFo

You can also get waterproof Dobble https://amzn.eu/d/gsPe4wj

Otherwise, I would just leave them to it. I would have thought there’s no need to entertain them with games.

YaMuvva · 29/05/2024 09:54

DD has also given me a playlist of totally obscure artists I’ve never heard of but judging by their names sound terrible 🤣 so I’m compiling that today!

They're still 10/11 years old. They'll still want to play as well as playing at being grown ups.

FlakyScroller · 29/05/2024 10:01

Not sure about games, but just wanted to check from a safeguarding point of view that you have thought about implications of letting them have phones in/around the hot tub.
I can imagine some parents would not be impressed if pictures/videos of their children in swimwear get on TikTok or similar.
I teach year 5 and a number of them do post on TikTok despite our constant advice to parents.

OMGitsnotgood · 29/05/2024 10:02

They might like 'the After Eight game': Balance an after eight (or similar) on the forehead then you have to wiggle it down to get it in your mouth without touching it (Google it if you're not familiar with it, lots of videos on YouTube etc)

'I went to market' - first person says 'I went to market and bought (something beginning with A) - eg apple. Second person: I went to market and bought an apple and (something beginning with B' and so on - each person has to repeat all the other objects in alphabetical order then add on something beginning with the next letter in the alphabet.

Make up a story by adding a sentence, person by person eg
Person 1; it was Mary's birthday and we were sitting in the hot tub (you could give them the first sentence to start it off)
Person 2: I couldn't believe what happened next
Person 3 : An eagle swooped down and stole Mary's bikini top

itsgettingweird · 29/05/2024 10:11

What about making their own pizzas instead of ordering them?

Easy to get a load of bases and various toppings.

Yes to mock tails.

If they want games the chocolate game is good. Throw a six and dress up in the clothes and cut a square of chosolate off. Keep going until the next person throws a 6.
We usually use hats, gloves and scarf but goggles or sunglasses, sunhat and poncho towel or sarong will keep it topical!

There’ll be no phones in the garden. I’m not being responsible for some kid water damaging their £500 iPhone!

I disagree. Our kids and friends always loved games even as older teens and now as adults. You just have to have the right games. A little bit of structure can be fun and if you have games lined up but are having fun doing other stuff you don't have to do them.

YaMuvva · 29/05/2024 10:35

@itsgettingweird i promised DD a Domino’s and I want to do activities that I can leave them to with zero effort from me. Might get DH to nip to Lakeland though see if there’s a chocolate fountain in stock!

@Antsinmypantsneedtodance thabk you - loving the water balloon idea!

Plastic champagne flutes with fizzy apple or something that looks a bit like Prosecco so they can sit in the hot tub and drink it.

Medicinalfriedchicken · 29/05/2024 10:48

You can get waterproof versions of Uno, Dobble and playing cards, if you have time to source.

Love the idea of a mocktail station with some plastic flutes, cocktail cherries, fruit, little umbrellas etc. combined with some glowstick accessories - would make for some lovely group photos, too (by you, of course, no expensive phone near the tub!)

dancemom · 29/05/2024 10:49

A tripod and a ring light so they can film themselves doing dances / TikTok

RaininSummer · 29/05/2024 10:57

A sad day if 11 year olds don't want to play games. However could you do a 'make a mocktail' competition? Lots of juices, fruits, mixers, umbrellas etc. Tiny glasses so everybody can taste and bite on colour, taste, presentation etc.

RaininSummer · 29/05/2024 10:57

Vote not bite
