Talk to me about mosquito bites/hives

I was away last week, in Cyprus. Woke up on Wed 22nd with my lower right leg covered in (I think?) mosquito bites. Didn't feel/see a thing, just woke up with them. A few on my left leg and knuckle, but right leg is covered in them.

I have never been badly bitten before, usually one or two bites but this is a LOT.

My question is do they usually get "angrier" before they go away? I am trying not to scratch, some are much itching than others. They are much redder now than a few days ago (but not spreading out). I have some other 1% hydrocortisone and aloe vera.

Can post progress pics (🤮) but would love if anyone could give an approx time line based on their experience.

Could they be flea bites? The irritation can last a lot longer than mosquito bites.

I seem to be a mosquito magnet anywhere and everywhere and mine itch me to death and normally go purple, (I do use repellant but they don’t always do the job for me)
I find using lemon juice or vinegar( which I know is smelly) on the bites and that really helps calm the itching

I take antihistamines (as otherwise I swell up like a balloon).

I was about to say about antihistamines too, the second you see/ feel it is a good time but definitely take it for a while after. Antisan cream is a good one to have in the house too

Possibly! I didn't see the culprits!
They are worse today, so I am going to go to the pharmacist and on to GP if they can't give me anything.

Thank you all for your replies

A small update, as you were kind to reply to my OP

On Wed evening they were very red and sore.

Pharmacist recommended piriton and to keep going with my hydrocortisone cream and to go to GP if not improved.

On Thurs they weren't as bad, I had a phone consultation with GP who said to stick with cream and piriton, maxing out the dose, until after the weekend. If they get worse or I frel ill I need to go to walk in.

I have been wearing shorts at home to let air at them

Today (Sat) they aren't itchy or sore at all. They are still violent looking, but I am over the worst of it.

Bonus from this - I have learned that Piriton knocks me out. I have has 3 brilliant nights sleep

I get badly bitten, so much they get bruised. This was just three bites happened in April last year in North Cyprus.

Had similar in Madeira in Sept last year.

Take anti histamines each time. Can’t use repellent as it’s more of an attractment to me. As experimented with putting repellent on one side - more bites! Use mint, tea tree, lemon and mint scented toiletries as mozzies don’t like these smells.

Oh @Auburngal that looks so sore

I haven't got bruising but I counted 40+ individual bumps/hives/bites on my leg and a lot of them are very red. A small number blistered and popped. My calf looks a state.

I have previously had a reaction to midge bites, but nothing like this before.

Thanks for the toiletries tips
