How to avoid making small talk early am (lighthearted)

On holiday with DIls, staying in a rented house. They are nice but DMIL is, well, garrulous. This is ok at 4pm but I am finding it a bit wearing at 7am when I like to get up and have a peaceful coffee. How do I create a bit of quiet time without coming across as rude? So far, have said good morning and then just given yes or no answer for a bit!! Three more days to go. Maybe I should just get up later…

Take coffee back to your room or to the end of the garden?

My lovely mil was like this. I just told her I'm not a morning person and needed some quiet time first thing. She mostly remembered!

Thank you - yes, will try and nicely say I am not a morning person. We also have a bit of a language barrier as I speak to her in my second language which I am pretty much fluent in but sometimes struggle with getting the tone right (either come across as a bit abrupt or much too polite, can’t seem to get it in the middle sometimes though am working on this!!)

My MIL is like this. She's also an insomniac so is up at all hours.

Even to the point that DH once woke to an alarm to put out our new puppy for a wee at 3am and MIL was out watering the garden and shouted "Oh good morning darling!! How are you?".
DH snapped back "No, not good morning, it's fucking 3am!!"

Regardless of who I'm sharing a house with though, I always say "Right I'm taking my coffee back up to bed. See you in a bit".
