Clifton suspension bridge (free)
Bristol museum (free) but pay for the exhibition and go and see the current constable exhibition it’s fabulous
m shed - I think entry might be free and the colston statue in it
ss Great Britain (on a dry dock)
the Matthew
Bristol cathedral

if you had planned beforehand a tour like the banksy tour are good or visiting the vaults under the suspension bridge but you normally book them weeks in advance

have fun!

depends on what you like plenty to do

KickHimInTheCrotch · 29/05/2024 06:20

It depends what you/they are into?

There's plenty of theatres and music venues if you want an evening out.

A walk around the harbour is nice or up in clifton near the bridge/observatory.

A street art tour might be a good idea if the kids would prefer something a bit alternative.

There's museums and such like but not sure they'd keep an 11and 12 yo entertained for long?

11 year old is really into animals and 12 year old is into politics!! But we like to have time away on little trips throughout the year and this one is a bit lastminute.com so haven't really looked yet at places we can go. I remember the harbour from years ago it was lovely. Will check out the constable exhibition! Thanks.

Stokes Croft and walk around the shops? If you can get on a bus then Noah's Ark is good for animals. It's near Nailsea

I spent a couple of days in Bristol at the beginning of January with a 10 and 12 year old. It's a great place to walk around and look at street art - didn't think of doing a proper tour but that would be interesting. The M Shed is great, we were there for hours and we also enjoyed the Bristol Museum and art gallery. We stayed near Cabot Circus and got the bus out to and then walked back from the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Some places were closed as it was the quietest point of winter but we did go to a show at the Bristol Old Vic. There'll be loads more stuff to do at this time of year. It was also easy to find good food - loved this place https://www.7luckygods.com/. It was such a successful trip that my kids have asked both to go back to Bristol and also to go on more city breaks...

If you’re driving check your car is CAZ compliant!
Red lodge
Georgian House and Cabot tower Museum all close together there is also a banksy at the bottom of Park Street.
M Shed is cool SS Great Britain is up the docks from it.
The Bristol Zoo Project is on the outskirts now but it’s amazing highly recommended.
I would say that Roman Baths is a short journey on the train 15/20 mins I think the station is also close to the baths.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 29/05/2024 07:07

Have a wander round St Nicks market (close to Broad St) - lots of good food stalls outside and nick nacks inside.

wherethewaterisdarker · 29/05/2024 07:57

M shed is a good free museum with some interesting political stuff (eg colston statue which was torn down) and Wapping wharg the adjoining area is great for a wander (and any type of food you could want!)

Wake the Tiger is great - imagine you’d need to book in half term.

at the suspension bridge there’s the observatory tower where you can climb deep down stone steps to the giants cave and stand on a viewing platform looking over the gorge - mine love that - and the camera obscura too. The natural slide is there too.

avoid broadmead and castle park - dodgy even the day nowadays sadly.
