Testing tapwater? Buy a water filter?

The recent stories about contaminated tap water have me spooked. I am not normally of the tin hat persuasion, but after buying bottled water since this was in the news I keep thinking about water purity. Having looked at the Brita filters, I am not sure they would help if there were poo in the water - or whatever it was that caused the recent problems. Water testing kits on amazon seem to just test for things like iron or ph values etc. Has anyone looked into this?

No the Brita type filter would just get rid of some of the chlorine etc

You would have to use water purifying tablets to make it safe if it was contaminated.

We have looked into getting an external filter fitted on our water supply but again that's Josh to filet out the chlorine levels.

I'm not sure how else you can do it other than using the tablets. You do get filters that people use when they have bore holes or spring water supplies but I don't think you could connect those to the mains supply. I could be wrong tho.

Hi, I’ve used a water distiller for over ten years.
if you Google, it says it is purified, but of course they state the downfalls too.
note… never store distilled water in plastic.
actuslly, plastic bottled any water isn’t great, as the toxins from the plastic can leech into the water, espyif exposed to light/sunlight.distilled water “pulls”, so that’s why my water is in glass.

Thanks for your replies. It sounds like there's no obvious solution!
