First baby due end of summer we are set on the bugaboo donkey or fox. We had always planned to have children close in age but obviously we’ve never had a baby before and may change our minds. The difference in price is about 200 pounds. I’m thinking we get the donkey so that when we have another child we already have a double pram otherwise we are going to have to sell the fox to get a double. He’s saying get the fox we may not need a double. He thinks we can always get a double if we need it although it will end up costing us loads more money. My husband dosnt like spending money he’s a massive saver so I think he sees the extra 200 as unnecessary. He can never see into the future when it comes to saving. For an example We both like a certain drink that we have daily when it’s on a really good offer I buy it in bulk he sees it as spending future money that we didn’t need to and could just buy the smaller pack weekly with our shop but spend more. I’m now in two minds about the pram and which one I get.

I had a donkey and it really came in handy when DC2 came along. They’re very good prams, although I do since at a pram being the same price as a second hand car 🤣

Donkey. The resale value of that vs the fox will be worth it's wait in gold, even if you don't have children close enough in age to use it together.

We have just over two year gap and didn’t use a double - just a chameleon with a buggy board or DS scooted. We did walk a lot. So you may not need a double?

Agree with PP, many older kids don't like to sit in the buggy much.
From about 2 my DS would walk or use a buggy board.
Unless you're planning a very small gap, double may not really be used.

And bloody hell, I've just seen the price of the Donkey! Wtf! Unless you're getting a bargain 2nd hand deal, you can get a lovely buggy for waaay cheaper.

We got a nearly new YoYo for a couple of hundred 2nd hand (including bith the infant and older baby parts) and it's fab- really easy to get about, light and you can take it hand luggage on flights.

We had a nuna for number 1, then got a donkey when dc2 came along. They are currently 3.5yrs and 16 months and I wouldn't be without it. But I have yo take them a mile to nursery through busy Central London every day. However- we got the donkey (with all attachments) 2nd hand. Worth looking to see if you can get second hand and you will save loads!

I have a two year age gap between my children. I bought a single pram and then fell pregnant again just when my little one was 1. I loved the Bugaboo Donkey but could not justify the price of it,
especially as my toddler will walk everywhere.
I have bought the Out’n’about nipper pram and then added on the carry cot. It’s much easier to push and didn’t feel like I was spending a fortune on a nice pram. Its rarely used though and my baby spends most the time in our original single pram!

My biggest regret purchase was a £300 travel system. It was the most expensive thing I bought and used the pram for the first 2 weeks before moving to a £20 second hand izmi breeze carrier as soon as the little one was big enough. I found the pram to be way to much hassle and my daughter wasn't a great fan either. I can't imagine having to manage a double pram! Toddlers often don't like sitting in a pram for long anyway (you have to literally strap them in) so unless the age gap is very small I would say it's not worth it. Sorry it doesn't answer your question, I'd just stay well clear of expensive travel systems, they are a con. Save your hard earned money for stuff that matters, music lessons, clubs, a nice holiday 😉 oh and congratulations, hope all goes well x

Me personally, I wouldn’t get a double pushchair until you need a double. My single was hard enough to fit in lots of places out and about. Don’t make life harder than it needs to be. Buy one you can afford and will get lots of use out of now. You can always sell and trade up to a double later if you need one. I have 2 dc and never used a double buggy. If you’re dropping that much money on a pushchair though, also set aside money for later purchases, like a car seat. Our ERF seat cost us £400, which is a fraction of the price of a bugaboo, but may feel a lot more dear a year in when you haven’t been earning in a while.

Everyone I know who had the donkey got a much more lightweight one after their child got out of the bassinet stage, they are so big and heavy, like a tank! A better bet to potentially convert to a two child configuration is the Cybex Gazelle.

Littlemousehouse · 27/05/2024 17:04

Thank you we currently live in a small city/town and I don’t drive so am wanting a pram that can handle shopping. I didn’t like the look of the cybex gazell when I tested it in store. My sister and I are only a year a part and that’s what I’m hoping for but obviously I can’t exactly plan when I have another. I also won’t be able to use a carrier due to medical issues. Could use it for short stints but it won’t be practical. I’m very fortunate that I will still be able to earn during maternity so having to buy extra bits won’t be the end of the world. I’ve looked at second hand but there aren’t many on fb marketplace
