Shamelessly asking for medical advice

I've woken up this morning and couldn't wee

I did a little 'push' and a trickle came out Blush it was awful because there was a lot of pressure like there is when you wake and need a wee

Anyway, the only way I could get it to come was to push a little at the urethra area. Clean hands, obviously. And I know you shouldn't do that! Infections and whatever else, but it's literally the only thing that helped

I have had a warm bath and no joy. I still really need a wee but not as bad as when I first woke up

Has anyone had this before? I haven't. And I've had kidney sepsis. I couldn't wee properly more than a few bloody tinged drops, which was a sign. But this feels different. Like it's 'clogged up'

Be grateful for any advice. I have googled and not a lot comes up other than crazy stuff like kidney disease and terminal illness, of which I doubt I have developed overnight Grin

Sounds like a UTI - you still need to have your urine dip tested!

Sounds like a tiny stone got stuck then you passed it. Worth reporting it for your records in case it happens again.

I always had this when pregnant. I just couldn't wee. Id have to sit on the toilet for ten minutes. An osteopath sorted it for me. It still didn't flow as normal but it was better than it was. It wasn't the baby lying on anything either. Just some weird pelvic tension

I’m a nurse. Have you had children? This could be a pelvic prolapse, especially if there’s no pain. You really do need to be checked out, even if it seems to have resolved itself.

sandygrapes · 27/05/2024 11:49

Thank you

Yes I've had children Smile

3 days ago I had some mild sedatives for a colonoscopy. Maybe that's why or something triggered a spasm etc

But you peed blood.... That needs looking at.

No, I didn't

Ah, urinary retention (not being able to wee) is pretty common after sedation so I wouldn’t be too worried. Keep an eye on it and if it happens again in the next few days then flag it with an HCP (probably your GP) as it may be a complication of the procedure, especially if there’s any pain.

snackprovidersupreme · 27/05/2024 14:09

I have had this and had to be catheterised in a&e and they drained so much urine. It was awful. Mine was pregnancy related. urinary retention is painful and dangerous - a&e is totally appropriate. Good luck!!

No, I didn't

I beg your pardon, I misunderstood the OP - I'm actually very unwell with a kidney infection of my own, so I'm not firing on all cylinders and missed that that was a previous UTI. Sorry!

sandygrapes · 27/05/2024 18:38

@SilverHairedCat no worries! Hope you feel better soon

@sandygrapes Please see your GP anyway. It’s unlikely to be this, but inability to see can be a symptom of bladder cancer also. I think it needs investigating.

Is there any chance you are pregnant?

I had this with DS as had a retroverted uterus and as he was growing he was pushing against the urethra. I was admitted to hospital and told to lie on my stomach as much as possible until it 'popped' forward.

Wow that's the same as me! The hospital just said it was very very weird and couldn't explain it, but I also have a reverted uterus so that must be it. Had it with both pregnancies ...
