What happens if we move house after school application ?

I am wanting to move house to be close to the school we want our child to go to for year 7. However, I am currently due a baby so cannot put house on market just yet but will fo around July/August. However, it may still take a few months to sell and even longer to complete!

If it turns out that we miss the deadline and still haven’t moved but do move a couple of months later, will we be able to reapply for the school we are now in catchment for?

Thanks in advance

Why does being pregnant mean you can’t put up the house for sale? It’s a lot easier doing that than faffing around with a school application problem.

It may not be the same everywhere, but where I live there is a second deadline in December for people new to the area. Check your LA website.

Because I am due In 9 days to have a C section, I didn’t think it was a good idea to go in market until I can leave the house with baby so people can look round?

It looks like it does!!

so this means we will still be prioritized before places are offered ?!

Phew! Can relax a little now 🤣

also, if we’re renting at that point does that still count as permanent address?

The viewings will take 15 mins. Put it on the market, sit in the car outside if needed. It will be so much simpler in the long run.

BeaumisterandLeary · 26/05/2024 18:04

Yes, renting is fine.

Even with a C section?

What about tidying the house etc? It’ll be a complete bomb site? 🤣

I suspect it's easier to see your house with one child and while pregnant, than with one child and a new baby.

I did and moved hundreds of miles away just two months after giving birth via c section.

Was this with two kids? How did you manage to tidy house.? And may I ask your age?

Very inspirational stuff! Thank you ☺️

Generally if you apply, it’s based on where you live at that time and you can update your address up to closure date. After that you can change your address before the county announce the places, but you aren’t prioritised and if the school is full from those who applied in time, your child won’t get a space. They will then go on a waiting list but usually move higher up it because you will live closer.

Check with the school though as they often have different rules.

The baby is due in 9 days so too late for that! 🤣

I put my house on the market in May to make sure I was in catchment by September (new school) and sold to someone who wanted to do the same for their child.

I would personally put it on sooner rather than later - do you have a husband/partner who can take charge ?

Is the closure date the same as the second deadline?

I totally feel this!
Good luck OP. 9 days, wow!

Just popping back to say that for us the second date applied because we were coming from a different country. Moving with the LA will be different I'd think.
