25 full day
I think it’s 15 if half day ish

ultimately if you can afford it and your dog walker and dog have a fantastic relationship and you absolutely trust the dog walkers ability to manage your dogs and others then I’m happy to pay more.

Last year an elderly neighbour - 70+ started talking to us as we ret from a stroll

She was complaining about her dog walker not taking the dog for a full hours daily exercise - it was a hefty 8 quid a walk - or two in a day for 15 pounds - cash in hand (this dog walker I understand collected and dropped off other dogs at the same time

Good money, 4/5 dogs over 40 quid an hour - possibly tax free if their income is less than the tax allowance

Dog walkers with loads of dogs really disturb me. They can't possibly be in control of them all if something kicks off.

One of the main reasons you get a dog is so that you have a reason to get out and exercise. I've never understood why people buy dogs to then pay someone to walk them. If you're an elderly person with ambulatory issues, you're not going to get a dog that requires tonnes of exercise. Sorry if I'm missing the point, but it just seems stupid to me.

branvan5000 · 26/05/2024 10:06

Not London but another expensive city. £12 per hour and he has 6 dogs at a time. £72 an hour before outgoings. He only does 4 walks a day tho so £280 ish a day.

Because people have to go to work! It's not responsible to leave a dog for 8 hours plus alone every day.

I know that, which is why when I commuted, I never had a dog. You either work from home or you can take your dog to work with you. Or the other alternative which a lot of people don't like entertaining; get cats instead. Again, I'm sorry if I missed the point. I'm not trying to wind anyone up. I see something that makes no sense, I say something.

Been asked to walk neighbour's dog. Wondering what a reasonable rate would be.

@VolvoFan you never get babysitters for your kids?

OP posts:
VolvoFan · 26/05/2024 11:33

@JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods I don't have children, unfortunately. But when (not if, I like to keep hope alive) I do, I plan on being a SAHM. I love your username. I fancy a jacket potato now.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 26/05/2024 11:37

@VolvoFan even SAHMs are allowed to use sitters you know 😉

What topping are we having? 🥔

I would expect to pay £15 per hour.

You'll need to charge enough to cover all your professional obligations (insurance, dog first aid course, registration with the council etc.)

VolvoFan · 26/05/2024 11:40

@JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods butter and cheese 🤤

Would you use this same argument about people who have children and place them full time in a nursery from a few months old?

Yes, I would. Nursery/day care is institutional. Kids that are institutionalised from a very young age often grow into neurotic, depressed adults, owing to a permanent spike in cortisol levels. Babies and children need their mothers.

Wow!

Not London but SE county , £12 per hour for dog no1 and then £20 per hour when dog 2 arrived .

misssunshine4040 · 26/05/2024 12:19

@festivallove what a lot of rubbish.

Not all parents are their best when at home all day with kids - I am one of them.
I need to work full time to pay the bills but was a SAHM for the first year with my first 2 and it was not my idea of fun.
I absolutely adore my kids and work my bones off to provide the best I can.

£15/45 mins here (not London). Professional guy it's his only job. He takes mine +2 others I think. Double for second dog if needed. Maybe I should move to London, sounds like CoL would be cheaper!

My two are left home alone 3 days a month due to my DH’s shifts. Formerly, the neighbour had them at her house then we’d walk them regardless of weather/dark after work. I’m not going to leave them for those 3 days, obviously, but it makes it very difficult to find someone when most people want the job every day. We pay the current walker £20 a time (London-ish) which is very cheap compared to anyone else locally.
