Off on holiday tomorrow to Devon with DH and DC aged 9, 6 and 1, and our dog. Staying in Stokenham near Salcombe (South Hams region). Would love you to hit me with fun family-friendly things to do. Never been before, really looking forward to it. Hoping the weather will be reasonable....
Thanks!

Steam train out of Kingswear to Paignton.
Ferry boat up the River Dart from Dartmouth.
Time exploring Dartmouth town.
Totnes is a lovely town.
Slapton or Blackpool beach.
Trip to Hope Cove beach, cream tea at the Cottage Hotel.

Whatever you love doing, however you relax; the unspoilt coast and countryside of South Devon is perfect for a family holiday, romantic getaway or a break with friends.

Cranchs sweet shop in Salcombe. I've been going there for over 50 years.

Scottishgirl85 · 25/05/2024 18:50

Great thank you! I'll take a look. Sweet shop is a definite!

Walk along the cliffs to Dartmouth castle - go to Blackpool Sands - wander round Dartmouth and buy some Ed’s fudge!

Pennywell Farm
South Milton Sands, book for lunch at The Beach House
Rock pools at Hope Cove
Boat from centre of Salcombe to South Sands
If the weather is bad you can book a guest family swim at Salcombe Harbour Hotel
Dartmouth Castle with lunch at Rock Fish (need to book!)

Enjoy your trip Smile

Take the sea tractor across to Burgh Island

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/05/2024 00:28

Take the ferry from Salcombe to the other side of the estuary below East Portlemouth, as they get the afternoon sun.
Millbay can be reached by car. There is a car park owned by National Trust. The beach has a stream running down it and its brilliant for damming. Sunny Cove is only accessible on foot or by boat.

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/05/2024 00:30

Sorry, I made that sound like you can take a car on the ferry- you can't. It's foot passengers only.

Model village at Babbacombe
All the usual pier activities at Paignton, Teignmouth or Dawlish Warren (but no pier at Dawlish Warren)
Sea trips from Torquay/Brixham - see the wildlife etc.
Paignton zoo
Crabbing
Building sand castles
Rock pooling (not many places but I think maybe Brixham?)
World of Country Life at Exmouth (adventure playground, animals, deer park, mini train, hawk flying, vintage vehicles, etc. etc.)
Crealy Country Park near Exeter
Museums etc (not so much fun for children)
All the local theatres will have half term shows for children, there are theatres at Torquay, Paignton, Exeter and probably lots of other places
The Orange Elephant near Exeter - summer meadow and play area, animals and the BEST ice cream made on the premises
Dartmoor!!!! Ape
Go Ape

So many things to do round here! This and the previous posts have hardly scratched the surface!
