Adobe cancellation fee…£120!!

My 14yr old signed up to the Adobe free trial in March because it was recommended by staff in school. Not necessary. So he thought he’d check it out.

He’s now forgotten to cancel before the free trail ended and because he’s had no money in his account the monthly fee hasn’t been going, so he hasn’t realised it was still active.

I’ve just put £100 in his account to buy some clothes, but automatically adobe have taken the owed monthly fee out. So I’ve been on their website to cancel the subscription and they want flippin £120! For a service he hasn’t even used 😖😤

Has anyone ever got out of this? Or do I have to suck it up?!

This is the terms from their website about sign up:

By using the services or the software, you affirm that you are of legal age to enter into the terms, or, if you are not, that you have obtained parental or guardian consent to enter into the terms. You must be 13 or older to register for an individual Adobe ID

I'd email customer services and explain it was a 14 yr old who signed up without your consent, you only became aware when they money came out of his bank and politely ask for the money back or at least that they waive the £120 fee.

If Adobe won't waive it and you dont wsnt a frawn out fight., go to "manage plan" instead. I got the cheapest one (about 20 quid) and put a reminder to cancel that after 11 months into my diary.

Adobe are notoriously bad at dealing with this issue because it's clearly a licence to print money.

It should also be a student subscription, so no way should it be that much. We pay £9.95 a month, lots of schools have a license for theirstudents though.
Adobe sadly are dreadful to deal with and utterly scalp creative professionals.

Thank you for your replies! I’ll try to fight to at least waiver the cancellation fee… i was a bit shocked when I saw it.

But thanks for the heads about student account, I didn’t see that.

Fight it and say the charge wasn't clear. I gotten out of these charges with Adobe a few times. They will try to get you to stay and will prob offer you some incentives but be clear you want a refund, it was a 14 year old who signed up and it was not clear how much you'd be charged - I think you're very likely to get your money back

My DD did this at the same age! They had taken it from her personal account as that is what she had put in to register. I spoke to customer services, explained the situation and that she wasn't old enough to agree to this set up and the canceled/refunded what had already been taken, no trouble at all.

Thank you!… I’ll give them a call on Monday x

I have had a similar issue, not exactly the same. I argued it, as it wasn't clear on this occasion that I would be tied in to a contract and I was refunded. Worth trying
