Examples of things I have enjoyed are Guy Deutscher and Richard Dawkins. In hospital and bored!

Unlawful Killings - its written by an retired Old Bailey Judge called Wendy Joseph about various cases she saw in court. It's so well written I couldn't put it down. Every case she describes has a twist.

Unnatural Causes, by Richard Shepherd.

I was so surprised how interesting it was given the subject matter.

Came on to recommend this. Absolutely riveting,I loved the audiobook.

Reading the Glass by an old sailor. I work part time in a bookshop and have read it myself. Not often I do that. Beautiful mix of weather forecasting oceanography and life on the open seas it's a lovely book

A Tomb With A View (ignore silly title) and its follow up Steeplechasing around Britain by Peter Ross.

The first about graveyards, the second about churches. Both absolutely fascinating and beautifully written. Not remotely morbid or religious.

Kathleen Jamie's books are also beautiful. Little observations about landscape and nature.

We just gave my FIL Steeple Chasing, for his 90th birthday, @ASighMadeOfStone. I don’t think we will give him A Tomb with a View - it might be a bit tactless! 😂😂😂

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit
😅 Perhaps so.

@MissScarletInTheBallroom @FormerlySpeckledyHen that has been one of my standout reads this year too. Very interesting and well-written.

'The Body' by Bill Bryson. Full of fascinating things.

Invisible Women written by Caroline Criado Perez.

Second this, it’s amazing.

If you’re into biographies then anything by Claire Tomalin is awesome. I popped into Oxfam today and they had a copy of Samuel Pepys: The Unequalled Self which I haven’t read in an age so snapped it up. She is so suited to this type of writing. Also Caravaggio: A Life Sacred and Profane by Andrew Graham-Dixon is awesome too. If anyone ever tells me history is boring I point them in the direction of books like these - they bloody got up to all sorts!

Hope you get well soon, by the way.

Stolen Focus by Johann Hari

Totally agree

Educated - Tara Westover. One of the best books I’ve ever read

Thank you for all of these suggestions! Plenty caught my eye but I had to bear in mind that I needed fast delivery so went for John Galbraith The Affluent Society in the end.

But there are certainly some I would like to buy for delivery to my home address.

Nice choice, I will probably get it too! Hope you aren't in hospital too long.
