Getting rid of bed bugs

Cantstopeatingcakea · 24/05/2024 09:18

Help. We have these in one room. We've thrown away all bedding and closed the room. Might paint a red cross on the door.
Seriously though, any tips? We are thinking of getting sprays and s steamer and steaming everything.
Thank you

It won't be enough (sorry)
You need to contact your local council.. they will have a pest control specialist.
(We had the same scenario... dh brought them home we think after travel) It cost £120 2 years ago for a rough estimate

The council will funigate the entire house ..(doing one room is not enough as all you need is ONE to have snuck out on clothes or shoes.). which you have to pretty much clear... we had to remove all book cases from walls, furniture all in the middle of the rooms.
ALL clothes needs washing.. so any clothes in drawers or wardrobes. Bin the bedroom carpet (we binned EVERYTHING.. wardobes, mattress, bed frame etc|)
Bed bugs are HARD to kill and it's not worth trying to do it yourself... call in the big guns.

It was HIDEOUS. (and expensive to replace furniture but they hide in the joints of bed frames and in tiny spaces in floor boards)

When it's all clear, buy some diatomaceous earth from Amazon and put it in the cracks of floorbaords, furniture etc. It kills and prevents any more as it literally dries out the bugs so they die...but thats a 'never getting them again' thing.

Honestly do not try to DIY... it is unlikely to be effective :(

We got rid of them by lots of steaming of bed and frame over months (plus floor and wall a couple of times). We do have hard floors everywhere and a wooden bed frame. They never got out the bedroom fortunately and it wasn't a big infestation but it was months before we stopped finding the odd one in the drawers under the bed. We used quite a bit of powder from the DIY shop which caught the last few.

There is a special type of fumigation which means you don't have to get rid of everything. It will kill every invertebrate in the house.

I had an amazing pest control guy out last year who managed to get rid of them completely. Cost £300 for the treatment.

We caught them last year. Paid the council £300 for 3x treatments and they did all the rooms.
