What do you do when workmen are in the house?

Man is here this morning changing the electricity and gas meters and I feel so awkward 😅 he's had to turn the power off so that limits me a bit. Also really wish I'd boiled the kettle before he did! I'm up to date with housework, I don't know what to do with myself 😂

I put on the TV or listen to a podcast (not one about murder) and crack open my laptop and pretend to work, holding in several farts and hoping it all ends soon.

Lucyloo223 · 24/05/2024 12:03

Should I put a complaint in about what he said on the phone?

For a moment there I felt very sorry for you, unable to think of anything to do but chores.

Then I was reassured by knowing you were only pretending, you are infact Mumsnettung.

It's all good

Nothing makes them work quicker than when you sit in the same room and stare at them

I lock myself in another room with the kids and dog and just scroll through my phone 😂

No, you shouldn't

Violet17 · 24/05/2024 12:38

Feel awkward and stay out the way as much as possible in another room.

Perfectpots · 24/05/2024 12:40

Feel awkward
Do housework as I feel lazy sitting there.

crumpet · 24/05/2024 12:40

Read a book.

I don't know what you mean? I mean tbh there's only so many things you can do in the house without any power

Go to my room and get the big rabbit out.

Why not?

Not exactly something worth reporting. Bloke has medical issues. Talks about it. Not like he's saying he's horny and needs to do something about it. That I would report

Oh OP, why is this so terribly awkward for you?

Depending on the personality of the "Workmen" or tradesmen etc, you could just leave them to it.

Or just say a quick "Hi, are you right? I'm having a cup of tea if you'd like one?"

I thought I had social anxiety.

You clearly don’t have it if this situation doesn’t make you awkward! Your membership of the social anxiety club is officially revoked.

I just think it's so inappropriate to be in a customer's house talking about your sex drive. He must have known it would make me feel uncomfortable!

Also just thinking talking about sex drive in the ear shot of young children is really inappropriate

What harm is that causing? Unless he's using obscene or graphic language it really isn't going to harm the DCs.
