Well exactly that?
I live up North, hardly ever been to London but have been once and seen palace, Big Ben and London eye.
i’m going next month taking DD to Taylor Swift. My DB has just moved there and asked what I would like to do for day?!I have no idea. And no money. I suggested Borough Market and then Holland Park to look for Hugh Grants house 🤣 He didn’t like either idea. What would you do?

What do you usually enjoy doing op? What does your daughter like? With limited budget I'd go to museums or galleries. There is lots that's free. How old is your daughter?

If your brother lives there he should be able to recommend the best cheap eats!

What area are you staying in?

If you're going to Swift you could eat at Box Park in wembley before.

The free museums or art galleries would be the obvious choice if you want to do things cheaply. I enjoy a wander around Borough market (but it's weekends only, and I think antiques are only Sunday so do check) and Camden is always fascinating.

It's worth going up to see one of the free viewing platforms eg. https://22bishopsgate.com/viewing-gallery/

I’m not going to Taylor Swift concert. She wants to queue at 9am so have a day to kill waiting for it to finish. Staying near Arsenal ground

If you get UC you can visit a lot of london landmarks for £1-2 for you and 5 others.
tower of london is included.

It really depends on the age of your daughter. I assume she isn’t too little because of the Taylor Swift mention. If you only have one day you aren’t going to see everything, and you also don’t want to spend too much of that day moving around.

So either head East to Stratford and spend some of the the day at Westfield , she will probably love Sephora, and some at the Elizabeth park next door ( the former Olympic Park) . You could go up the Mittel Tower, you could bring your swimming stuff and swim in the amazing Olympic pool, take a ride on a canal boat or a swan, hire a bike, enjoy the park, maybe even give her the gift of real music and book a show at the ABBA Concert.

Or stay up in town, start at Trafalgar Square, walk down to The Embankment and stroll along the River to Big Ben, take in the view of the Houses of Parliament, then walk down Birdcage to Buckingham Palace, back up the Mall or through St James Park towards Trafalgar Square again . Then I would either cross the River and visit the South Bank, which is always buzzy at the weekends, or make my way to Covent Garden and enjoy some street theatre and then explore some of the shops in the market or in the streets around.. Good for chocolate. China Town and Leicester Square another option here.

Or have a Museum Day, check out what exhibitions are on at the V and A if your daughter likes fashion, theatre or jewellery , or the Natural History or Sciience Museums if that is more her style.

Or take a commuter river boat down to Greenwich, you will see lots of London on the way, Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge, OXO Tower, HMS Belfast Tate Modern,The Tower of London, Cutty Sark,St Paul’s - if you are very quick, the Millenium Bridge ( not in that order) then lots to see and do in Greenwich, museums, markets, a lovely park.

Have a great day, and next time come and enjoy London for longer, we Londoners are friendly and helpful and love people enjoying our city , as long as they stand on the right when going up or down escalators.

I love a wander around Camden

SlothsNeverGetIll · 24/05/2024 03:56

I always like a Thames cruise. I love Borough Market, it's always worth a visit.
China Town is fun. I personally always need to go for a drink in a 'proper' old London pub, but obviously not a great option for you.

SlothsNeverGetIll · 24/05/2024 03:58

The HMS Belfast is the best paid attraction I've ever visited, and i have no interest in maritime history and boats. You can literally wander all over the ship - we were on it for over 2 hours.

longdistanceclaraclara · 24/05/2024 09:07

Borough market is open all week and definitely not antiques, I think pp is thinking of Greenwich.

Needmorelego · 24/05/2024 09:25

@ImNotReallyHere is this just for you while your daughter is at the concert?
What do you like?
History, art, shopping, people watching......?
