Stressful time and end up doing nothing on my days off. Please give me some ideas- I’ve thought of swimming and shopping already :)
Need inspiration as I’ve ended up stuck in a rut. Thank you!

Walk in the park, picnic in the sun with a book?

NewName24 · 23/05/2024 23:51

Need a bit more context ...... (do you have small dc / is money a barrier / do you live in London or by a beach or a forest or a mountain / are you looking for mental stimulation or physical stuff / are there time constraints / any physical limitations / what else are you already doing / etc)

Declutter your house
Sleep
Volunteer
Get fit (in anyone of lots of different ways)
Meet a friend
Take a long bath
Visit (relatively) local towns as a tourist

A one day craft course, knit a scarf or learn felting or tie dye a tee shirt, look at local arts centres, libraries, art galleries or WEA website for information.

Do a part time course on something new to you, often they run for 6 or 10 weeks, the local museum might hold these, or WEA.

Follow a Tree....Find a tree you like, not too far away, every week, whatever the weather, go and take a photo of your tree. At the end of the year, you could make a montage of the photos, or a calendar, or put them into a digital frame.
Obviously, a deciduous tree is going to make a more interesting series of photos than a conifer! 🌴 🌴 🌴

Yoga?

Gardening? I've started in my garden and it's so satisfying transforming the space.

HappyAutumnFields · 24/05/2024 17:57

Where do you live? Hill walking? Sea swimming? Drystone walling? Guerrilla gardening?

FlyingFlapjack · 24/05/2024 18:00

If you live within a short walk from a pond or river, or a park, walk there every day, sit down or lean against something for a bit and take in what's going on around you. Add it to your journal, or take a photo.

Set yourself a list of places you'd like to go. Nothing extreme, but instead of going to the high street, go to the high street in a town nearby instead. Do the same again but a different town. Make it a mix of naice places, touristy places, and ones that aren't all that good.

More thoughts..

About Follow a Tree, you might find that a photo every week is too demanding, or time consuming, but a photo every month will still be an interesting project.

Buy a cookery book of a cuisine that you don't know very well, look for one with classic recipes rather than ten minute meals. Every month cook a new dish from the cuisine you're discovering, you'll find out about new ingredients, possibly new wines, maybe a bit about the culture of the country.

You mention that you like shopping...
If that includes charity shops for clothes, take a photo of yourself wearing your new find each time, you could make them into personal greeting cards, or a continually changing photo board.

Pick a random place within an hour or so of where you live for a mooch round the shops/streets and coffee/cake.

Look for a garden/stately home/random attraction near you.

Bake your favourite cake.

Find somewhere you can go wild swimming.

Visit a cat cafe.
