Suspecting mental illness - will social services be informed?

Hi everyone,
Just that really.

I am going through a really rough time mentally and think I might suffer from borderline personality disorder. I want to get help.
I have two young kids, will social services be informed if I do have bpd?
I have never harmed or abused the kids and never thought of doing it

Thank you

Only if the doctor thought your children were at risk, not routinely

Potentially, but not routinely. I work in MH services. We would refer if the children were at risk (for example, the mental illness meant that someone was not attending to their baby's needs, not changing nappies etc), or if they needed more support (I.e. they were finding it impossible to leave the house so children weren't attending school), but in both cases it would be to provide support.

I've known of lots and lots of parents referred to social services for mental health reasons (including myself!), and I only know of one situation where the child was removed, and that mother refused to engage with any services or attend any appointments, over such an extended period of time that it became essential to safeguard the child. Parents who are engaging with support and seeking help when they need it are good parents.
