I’d say 45 and 6/7yrs.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 23/05/2024 18:28

Middle aged used to be 20 years older than me. It then reduced to 10 years older than me. It's now 5 years older than me. I'm 59...

The average life expectancy for women in the U.K. is 83 so early 40’s is middle age.
Small children until 8 ish

50 is the middle of adulthood, so either side of that, depending on health, outlook, life expectancy to a degree. So 40-60 or 45-65.

A small child is 7 or under. A big child 8 to 12.

FairyCakesss · 23/05/2024 18:30

40 is middle age. Small kids I would say under 6

macshoto · 23/05/2024 18:30

To my mind middle age is middle (adult) age.

So I would go for something closer to 49/50.

OmuraWhale · 23/05/2024 18:31

Middle age is 40-60, a small child is under 5.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 23/05/2024 18:31

40 and 10

YesItsMeIDontCare · 23/05/2024 18:31

I had a conversation about this with my brother.

Boils down to if you have kids you're middle aged, if your kids have kids you're old 😊

In my head, I discount the first 18 years as I consider it childhood.

Middle aged is a statement of adulthood to my mind, so I’d far 50/52 upwards.

It’s also more of a state of mind than a blanket policy.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 23/05/2024 18:32

I’d say middle age is 40+ and small child ends at 7ish (junior school age)

I am 40 and would say I am middle aged, I would say children under 6 are ‘small children’

YellowHairband · 23/05/2024 18:54

I'd say middle aged is 40-60.

Small children probably depends on the context but maybe 7 or 8.

K0OLA1D · 23/05/2024 18:55

I'd say 45 and under 6

JustPleachy · 23/05/2024 18:56

50
5/6

merryhouse · 23/05/2024 19:09

Middle-aged: 35-60. Yikes, only 5 years till I'm Older. Elderly is less chronologically-based.

Under 3s are babies and toddlers. Small children are 3-6. Young children are 7-10.

katebushh · 23/05/2024 22:51

50 and 7.

StarDolphins · 23/05/2024 22:59

There are 20 year olds or younger who are now middle aged. I find that really sad.

Anyway, I’ll answer the question. I see middle age as 40-50 & young children 6-10

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2024 23:01

It's not a defined age, more a state of mind.

Sakura7 · 23/05/2024 23:04

Now way is a 35yo middle aged.

I agree with others, I see it as the middle of adult life, so around 45 or so.

It's always five years older than me.

Violetparis · 23/05/2024 23:12

40+

Absolutely not!! I’ve just turned 40 and am in no way middle aged (although I fully accept others may see me as that 😭).
