Booking flights to Australia

Daughter is hoping to go to Australia in November and do one of these group tours and stay on afterwards.

Does anyone have any tips on booking flights to Aus? Do’s & don’ts, good airlines etc

Thanks

Decide how long she's happy to lay over for on the way, and/or whether she wants to visit the place she transits.

I always fly via Singapore and do a stop over for a few nights in one direction to break the flight.
Some airlines are more expensive than others, but the experience and plane are nicer. Others are cheaper and have longer layovers and less world class service.
You can sometimes go from European countries cheaper if she's happy to do a 3rd flight.
Since COVID all flights seem to be a lot more.

Singapore, Emirates, Qantas, Qatar, Cathay Pacific, etc. will all be good.

Use Skyscanner or Google flights to compare times and prices.

Visit Australia a few times a year. Top tips are:

  • Look at travelling from a European hub - often travel (especially business) is cheaper if you fly from Paris/Dublin/Amsterdam. You can get a cheap flight to there and then fly on ( just remember to factor in collecting luggage and checking back in! )
  • look at China Southern - very, very much cheaper. Usually have a longish layer in Guangzho but they will put you up (free) in a hotel if this is over 7 hours.
  • Korean air also has good deals
  • be flexible on dates - sky scanner has a tool that shows the cheapest days to fly
