DS(9) gets funny feeling in his head

A few months ago DS(9) started getting some sort of feeling in his head that made him instantly need to lie or sit down. He can’t seem to describe what the feeling is, just calls it ‘oozy,’ and it lasts for maybe 30 seconds to a few minutes at the most. They are very sporadic - from several a day, to once every few days.

He feels awful with them and you can see in his face that he is in a lot of discomfort. It seems to be more of a pressure feeling onside the top of his head/near forehead rather than a pain. He is fully coherent etc while he’s feeling this, but wants to be left alone until it goes.

I took him to the GP in January who wasn’t bothered (I kept a diary) but ran a blood test as he gets tired a lot (that’s not new, tests only showed low Vit D which he now has a supplement for). He had another eye test done (all normal, better than 20/20 vision) but Specsavers said they could do a more comprehensive test for £35. Then these spells suddenly stopped but have started again yesterday so I will look into the more comprehensive test now.

Anyone have any idea what it could be? I don’t think it can be migraine as they are too brief, he says it’s not dizziness, I’ve just wondered about epilepsy or is that a wild leap??

Could it be low blood pressure. You get a sort of weird loss of sight and woozy feeling

Can you think of any triggers or events that might have preempted them originally or the recent recurrence?

Does he have any other symptoms? How frequently do they occur?

It’s not impossible that these episodes could be a precursor to epilepsy but it’s also possible the could be a sign of a functional neurological disorder.

When you kept a diary last time was it just of the fits themselves? You could try keeping an ABC log detailing what is happening before the episode (Antecedant), what occurs during (Behaviour) and how he is after (Consequences) to give a clearer idea of triggers and patterns do there are any.

I’d also suggest taking some video of him when he’s having an episode to take to any future GP appt.

You could also ask if he’s able to squeeze your hand, pick up a small or a large item to see if there is any interruptions of brain signals.

It could be many things, but epilepsy is definitely a possibility - 30 seconds to a few minutes could be that he's having a type of seizure (there's many types, plenty of which you can be fully aware what's going on, be able to speak etc. When I was having seizures I could still hold a mug of coffee without dropping it.)

I think you should go back to the GP.

It could be an inner ear thing. I used to get it as the mucous moved along the tubes in my head. Felt awful. Dizzy. Then it all passed and I was fine 30 secs later.

I stopped dairy. And thick gloopy stuff like peanut butter and (sadly) chocolate. So nothing with dairy like cake, pizza, choccy biccies. It sucks. I No longer get these turns.

When you're keeping a diary add food into it. Try cutting out potential triggers for a week and see if things improve.

ASMR? I started getting it in childhood

@MintyCedric thanks for the ideas, and I will look into the ABC log too.

@Elieza he did have glue ear but the last time he had a hearing test about 3 years ago they said it was clearing by itself, however he is on the waiting list for another test. He would be horrified at eliminating those foods but I will look into it!

@Gumbo i had a friend who had similar sounding seizures to yours too. I will get his eyes checked again this week and then back to the GP (last time they wanted his eyes tested first).

@bananasstink we have a BP monitor at home so I could try that out of interest
