Ideas for a 4 day break with a 14 year old...

Hi all,

I've recently decided that for my son's birthday each year, we will go away on a 3/4 day trip somewhere. I'd love to see more of Europe and he loves to travel ...partner not so interested.

For his last birthday we went to Krakow and had a fantastic time. We went the end of January, so would probably looking for the same time of year (roughly).

We'd be travelling from Cardiff or Bristol...any ideas of a nice country to visit? I have a younger child, so can't really do more than 3 nights; meaning no more than a 3 hour flight ideally.
He'll be 14 and is very mature for his age. He generally likes us just spending time together and going out for food. I'd like somewhere that has nice places to visit/landmarks.

Any suggestions please 😊

We took DD to Berlin when she was 16 and she enjoyed that, as did we.

Ideas with direct flights from Bristol or Cardiff:

Rome
Barcelona
Malaga
Porto
Lisbon
Prague
Berlin
Budapest
Amsterdam
Copenhagen

I think it somewhat depends on budget & how cold you are happy to be too!

We went to Rome in February with young teens. It was fabulous.

There's so much to see and as it's quite a small city we just walked everywhere. The teens ate lots of pizza and gelato and generally had a lovely time.

I was warm enough just wearing a tshirt and jeans during the day in mid February. The Italians were in coats and scarfs but it was 19 degrees and sunny. 😂

We took DS to Berlin and he loved it. Go up the TV tower and have lunch at the revolving restaurant at the top! We also visited the DDR museum, there's the wall of course, and I've heard good things about the Spy Museum, although we didn't go.

Hi,
My son went with his dad flying into Venice, train to Rome (day trip to Pompeii) and train to Pisa where they flew home from. They spent 5 days and it was very cheap being in February. They chose the route based on the cheapest flights. This was pre-covid so I'm not sure how prices compare.

They had a great time and my husband commented that everyone was really friendly and interested in our child (who was about 8 at the time). The only negative was my husband said he wasn't comfortable walking around Rome at night.

I'd suggest Amsterdam- for biking, food and culture

Switzerland for the football museum, Lindt factory tour and CERN visitor centre, train ride in the Alps.

Barcelona - again football stadiums, beach, culture, food
