URGENT - DOG ATTACKED PARTNER **Please read OP's latest updates** [edited by MNHQ]

Hi all, my 6yo JRT has attacked my partner twice this morning. He has recently developed some territorial aggression, and we have to 'coax' him away from his bed each morning. This morning was as normal, but he wouldn't come so we just left him. My partner went to get milk, about 2m away from him, and the dog lunged and has bitten his hand fairly badly. We managed to lock him away whilst we sorted things, and have since boarded a section of the kitchen away so he can get outside but also can't get to us.
Anytime we enter the kitchen he viciously barks. I have a 4yo at home, so this isn't something I can risk.
He has since bitten my partner again when we went to open the back door for him (by leaning over the barrier we've created) and it's really bad - blood everywhere and he is now in a&e.
I cannnot get near the dog. How do I get him to a point where I can get him checked out - or as I'm probably denying to myself, put to sleep..?
I'm in absolute bits - I just need advice please urgently.

To note - I can't get a vet to come to him, I have already called around

  • [Note from MNHQ: We've already edited the title to ask people to read the OP's updates before responding (just click on the See All tab). As that doesn't seem to have worked, we feel the need to explain here in the opening post that the OP's dog has been put to sleep by now as he was found to be suffering from a brain tumour. The OP is obviously in pieces about this so please be sensitive when responding.]

As someone else said it could be that he's in pain or maybe even has a brain growth or something to do with hormones.

Good to get him checked out, but absolutely keep him away from everyone until it's sorted. Have you a garden you can put a little kennel in?

Would it really have been so difficult to at least read the OPs posts before you posted? Especially since more than 24 hours have passed.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 23/05/2024 15:49

Sorry for your loss OP!

He had a good life with you and you reacted in all the right ways at the end.

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 23/05/2024 15:49

Ah I'm so sorry 😔 he looked a very handsome boy.

PowerTulle · 23/05/2024 15:52

Just seen your update OP. I’m so sorry. Take comfort that you did your absolute best for him.

blackcherryconserve · 23/05/2024 15:53

So sorry for your loss OP. 😥

ginasevern · 23/05/2024 15:55

So terribly sorry for your loss OP. You must be in a state of shock. I did wonder whether it was a brain tumour. You gave Donut the best life and were a loving and caring owner to the very end which I am sure he knew. Sending hugs.

darksideofthestudio · 23/05/2024 15:55

I am so sorry @FlangeBoil but you absolutely did the right thing and hopefully, in the days and weeks to come, you can take comfort in knowing that his behaviour was due to the brain tumour. Wishing your DP a speedy recovery too. RIP Donut 🐾

BogRollBOGOF · 23/05/2024 16:06

What a shock of a 24 hours for you OP.

The small consolation is that Donut isn't suffering or in pain now and didn't do it of his own choice.

You've done the best you can for him.

I hope DP heals smoothly too.

WetBandits · 23/05/2024 16:07

Oh OP I’m so sorry. If you can find any comfort in this at all, your lovely little dog wasn’t acting as himself when he lashed out ❤️

I’m sorry his last days were not as peaceful as they might have been but you did right by him.

Run and play free little boy 🌈

Emdubz70 · 23/05/2024 16:08

Oh sorry to hear this OP 😢 Rest in peace little Donut. He looked like a lovely boy. He was letting you know something was wrong and you got him the help he needed. I’m sure he’d thank you for his happy life if he could xx

BirthdayRainbow · 23/05/2024 16:09

I am so sorry for you loss @FlangeBoil .

Completely unexpectedly I had to have my cat put to sleep earlier this week and so I understand the shock you are in. It's brutal. My house feels wrong without her. So odd as the house is big and the cat was little but I feel her missing.

RIP Donut.

Passmethegin67 · 23/05/2024 16:11

RIP Donut. Such a sad outcome but I'm so glad you got to the bottom of it. He couldn't help himself bless him. Be kind to yourself OP - you did the best you could in very difficult circumstances.

Janie143 · 23/05/2024 16:12

So sorry for your loss OP. RIP Donut. You were a good boy ❤

Etincelle · 23/05/2024 16:20

Cute name.

BelleStar2023 · 23/05/2024 16:24

I’m sorry OP, this is so sad. But you did the right thing for lovely Donut (and the rest of the family).

StickChildNumberTwo · 23/05/2024 16:25

I'm so sorry - you did the hardest thing, but the right one. And I'm glad you got an explanation for his behaviour, and know that nothing about it was your fault. Look after yourself xxxx

Rowgtfc72 · 23/05/2024 16:28

Sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Donut. He would have been frightened and confused and you will have filled his last moments with love. He couldn't have asked for more. They're never with us long enough, however long we have them.
I had two jrt, smashing little dogs.

DonttouchthatLarry · 23/05/2024 16:29

Thinking of you and sending hugs OP - run free little Donut, you were a good boy and couldn't help it, now you're at peace.

SherrieElmer · 23/05/2024 16:30

Congratulations OP. You had the courage and valour to see this through.
I must have been a harrowing experience. Rest assured that your family will value your determination to do what was the best thing for them.

Windypants21 · 23/05/2024 16:33

Very sorry to hear of all that has happened and RIP Donut. It is heartbreaking when you lose a pet. We live them so much. You gave him a good life and as much as it is so painful now, you have made the right decision for him. Take care.

CowboyJoanna · 23/05/2024 16:36

I am so so sorry for your loss OP Flowers

To hear he had a brain tumour as well is absolutely heartbreaking. But he is no longer suffering now

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 23/05/2024 16:36

I’m so sorry for your loss, Flange. He was a very handsome fellow.

Mum had a German Shepherd who was fine on the Monday, a single fit on the Tuesday & PTS on the Wednesday, at home, nearly 30 years ago.

I remember vet said some brain tumours grow very rapidly; he’d looked in Bluey’s eyes and there was no sign of a tumour on Tuesday morning, yet the next day it was seemingly everywhere.

We’re still saddened by the loss of our old cancer warrior in September (he was 12 and had Mast Cell Tumours popping up from the age of 6). It’s heartbreaking but it’s the last act of kindness we can do for our furry friends.

Much love from TedBear and I.

I don't think congratulations are appropriate here Sherrie.
OP's dog was very poorly with a brain tumour which is why he changed in behaviour, and he was put to sleep for his own wellbeing

DailyEnergyCrisis · 23/05/2024 16:38

so sorry for your loss OP- he looks like he was a gorgeous, happy boy.

BovineUniversity · 23/05/2024 16:38

Ah sending love. What a hard day that was x
