Achilles tear?

I exercise a lot, doing Thai boxing. About a week and a half ago I felt a sharp pain in my heel when I was doing a jump kick. Since then my foot has been painful to walk on. Does anybody have any experience of a partial Achilles tear? what should I do? Is there any point in seeking, medical advice and where should I do this if so?

I really really hate not exercising, but scared I’ll fully rupture it if I keep training

Try and get a private physio appointment. They should be able to put you through some simple tests to understand what you have done and devise a recovery plan if necessary. If you have a suspected achilles tear the last think you want it to return to dynamic exercise and make it worse.

I had a partial rupture a few years back right where it attaches to my heel. I could walk on tiptoe but could not put my heel down it was one of the most painful things ever to try.
I was in a wedged boot for a couple of months then physio afterwards.
If you think you've partially ruptured it go and get it seen.

thanks. I’m pretty sure I have. Sudden and then ongoing pain, no prior issues

It happened to me suddenly when I was running up a steep hill. I was given an analgesic cream to ease the pain.
If you continue to use it you could lose the use of your ankle temporarily which is what happened to me.
It took about 3 months to be able to walk normally again and 2 years to fully heal.

Ouch!

These are the cautionary tales I needed. Thank you

I’m unsure where to seek real
life help. GP? Minor injuries? I’m limping

If you think you’ve torn it you should really ring 111 and go where they send you. Walking around on it could cause permanent damage and it may need surgical repair.

Happened to me. Visit to GP and told to rest it for at least 2 weeks or risk fully rupturing it. Then gentle non-weight-bearing physio and build up again from there.

There's no quick way to heal a tear and trying could prolong the injury.
