Do you ever think misogyny will be a hate crime?

It's incredible that in this day and age the things men type about women even in fb comments and other social media are still tolerated.
I can't help but think one day this will be seen as what is discrimination and hate and be illegal just like other forms.

For some reason it hasn't been so far.

Nottinghamshire police were classifying it as a hate crime. It was some sort of pilot, not sure if it has been continued.

I think that misogyny should be a factor that's seen as an aggravating factor in crimes, yes, just as racism and homophobia are. But, the issue there is that so much misogyny is normalised that getting it even recognised and understood as misogyny is difficult.

I think that "non crime hate incidents" are a bizarre concept and that the police should not be recording these at all.

But surely even racism was normalised at one point and now it's recognised as hate so it's not an excuse.

Surely the fact that misogyny isn't a crime at all is misogyny itself?
Men don't want the consequences so there are none and woman don't have the power to change that.

fedupandstuck · 21/05/2024 17:54

It's not an excuse. I was expressing my disappointment and despair at things ever changing. And racism is not a past issue, it's very much still an issue and something that often people struggle recognise. Flat out deny it's happening sometimes, and that people who mention it are exaggerating or making too much of a fuss.

It's sad that when I was thinking your question through I literally thought "yes but then it'll be 50% of the population against the other 50%" which is obviously problematic in itself...

Who would make it a hate crime? the male politicians?
Who would enforce it? the misogynistic police force?
