Help me choose a potted flowering plant for front of home - no green fingers!

I posted this on gardening topic but it's quiet and I was hoping to pop to garden centre shortly. Can anyone help?

I'm not a gardener and kill everything. I need something bright and colourful but low maintenance. I already have geraniums in a window box - all good, very bright and don't need too much care. What can I put in a large pot next to the front door? It needs to be fairly largish and impactful but also look right alongside the geraniums. The house is a bit ramshackle looking, so no pristine paths or perfect masonry, but a cute little Victorian terrace with a tiny shingle front yard. Rented so can't do too much and need it in a pot.

The front of the house is full south facing.

Can anyone recommend something please? Thank you!

Sorry, I was going to suggest geraniums/pellargoniums because they are pretty much indestructible.

Some sedum, maybe?

Begonias are good, they flower till first frost. Or lavender, almost indestructible and excellent for bees.

Lavender might be a good option - it’s drought resistant and does well on strong sun and neglect, but on a pot will appreciate that drink of water when you remember it.

It’s lovely when it flowers and gets quite big. After the flowering season it needs cutting back quite hard to avoid going woody, but you can shape it into a tidy ball and not give it much thought until the following summer.

Would leave dad look weird with geraniums over on the window sill?

I did gave lavender once and it kept dying so I don't know what I did wrong!

@Theothername are we talking English or French? I'm utterly clueless!

A plant in a pot is like a baby - it will always need feeding and watering.
as your house is south facing then you will need Mediterranean type plants.
Lavender and Rosemary would be nice as they would give off a lovely smell. You can get rosemary as a tall standard which would look nice in a pot, maybe under planted by Mexican fleabane which is an easy plant.
Not sure why your lavender died as they tend to like neglect unless you had french lavender which would probably die in the winter as it’s not hardy.
