Do any women go to toilet with the toilet seat up?

At my work, time and time again when I walk into a cubicle, the toilet seat is left up.

We have single space toilets.

It's not a massive problem of course , but it is bloody annoying.

Do any women go to toilet with the toilet seat up? If so, why not put it back down???

Is it after it's been cleaned? The cleaners at our office leave them like that.

Letsgotitans · 21/05/2024 13:34

No I don't, I imagine that would be quite uncomfortable!

Coalfacebigtits · 21/05/2024 13:35

Squatters who squat on the rim with their feet do it sometimes

datcherygrateful · 21/05/2024 13:36

ooh that is interesting @Coalfacebigtits
Everyday is a school day!

I don’t, no.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/05/2024 13:37

Is it so that one can be sure that there are no spiders lurking under there? 🕷

Summerishere123 · 21/05/2024 13:38

Surely you would fall in? I certainly did when one of the kids left the seat up! And my bottom isn't very small

Our cleaners lift the seats and leave them like that, presumably to show they’ve been clean. It happens multiple times a day.

VintedoreBay · 21/05/2024 13:46

Who even sits on the seat? If the seat is up I leave it up and hover! Don't want to be touching that!

Peak Mumsnet.

We get this at work. It may be men using it if theirs is occupied but have noticed women leaving the seat up too!

I sit on the seat, what do you think's going to happen if you sit on the seat?

I actually read it's not good for you to do this. Apparently the muscles needed to squat and stay in position mean the muscles necessary for peeing don't relax 100% and so your bladder never empties fully. It can increase the risk of a UTI or pelvic floor dysfunction. I'd use toilet covers instead.

Oh god I remember this when first married (no one did this in childhood home) He came from a predominantly male home one mother all the rest male (why she put up with this 🙄) After several times falling in the toilet I refused to use it and it was filthy , I thought nothing of explaining to guests why it was
filthy .Why it was unclean ,wasn't my problem-it changed eventually when he got the message ..

Gemz1010 · 26/05/2024 17:15

I'm one of toilet paper nesters but I should imagine it's really uncomfortable to hover with the seat up

Serencwtch · 26/05/2024 18:39

Many women need to self catheterise due to bladder problems or injuries.
I use intermittent self catheterisation & find it easier to do standing up so lift the seat up to avoid splashing.
Some wheelchair users may catheterise from their wheelchair to avoid transferring onto the toilet & would prob lift the seat up for same reason.

NPET · 24/12/2024 13:18

I know I'm months late with this but the subject is so relevant. Now back home for Christmas but at college got a new roommate (a group.of us share a mini dorm), and she uses the toilet WITH THE SEAT UP.
Apparently she always squats over a seatless toilet (so that it gives her a wider opening in case she "misses" and might get the seat wet!).
We've now insisted that, like a boy, she must replace the seat, but for a day or two all sorts of jokes were springing up amongst us ("do you think she stands and sprays", "maybe she's got a nozzle down there").
