Weird thing always happens to me when I sit in the sun - does anyone else experience this?

I’ve experienced this for years and have never really understood what is causing it and I’d say it’s getting worse with age (I’m 51).

It’s a beautiful sunny day with not a cloud in the sky. I’ve just had some lunch, popped out some washing and thought I’d sit in the garden for 5 mins with the sun on my arms (to top up my vit d).

I am not a sun worshipper at all and here is why.

Literally, within those 5 mins I started to feel weird. My heart starts racing, I feel nauseous, tummy churning and I end up feeling very weak and shaky (the only way I can describe it is as though my blood sugar levels have suddenly plummeted- I am not a diabetic (to my knowledge).

I would understand if I’d been sitting there for ages but this is literally after 5 minutes. If I stay any longer I often end up with an upset stomach (I have suffered for years with IBS but can’t understand how sitting in the sun for a short while could cause me to have sudden diarrhoea?).

What could actually be causing this? Even after I’ve sat in the shade or I have come indoors I am still left with this weird weak, shaky and nauseous feeling for ages (and right now I’m also burping loads after those 5 mins in the sun, wft?).

Can anyone help me shed any light on this? I usually have to spend each summer in the shade and a full day on the beach or somewhere without shade is a big no-no.

I knew of a horse who was allergic to the sun (came up in big hives, was also allergic to carrots-please don’t feed animals that aren’t yours-and could only eat hay that was pretty much dust free, at least you can soak it even if it removes a lot of nutrients) It meant he couldn’t really go out, even on cloudy days, the Uv rays penetrate the cloud. Really sad.

@Grownyourownway
I have PoTs, hyper mobility EDS & Sjogrens disease which is like lupus. I can't stand the sun for too long & have lack of sweating. I used to get strawberry rashes in the sun to arms and legs but that seems to have disappeared for a few years now.

@Grownyourownway I have this. I get really shaky in the heat, yes feels like low blood sugar. It has got worse over time. I also get it when I exert myself, even carrying heavy shopping etc. the shaking is mainly in my head, chest and arms but sometimes in my legs. It’s not always visible it’s mostly internal but can be seen when it gets bad especially in my hands.

after many years of being told it was anxiety i have been diagnosed with essential tremor and take propanolol for it which is a lifesaver. Alcohol helps too, does it go away when you have a drink? This is probably the easiest way to tell and in fact is what helped the doctor to diagnose me. Hope you get it sorted

I’ve had heat intolerance since I was a kid, it’s gotten worse as I’ve gotten older (I’m in my 50s)

when everyone is getting excited about the summer I’m dreading it as I can hardly stand the heat, I get very ill.

CherryRipe1 maybe I need to start looking into my health issues a bit deeper, perhaps they do all have some kind of connection?

I am exactly the same Sunnytwobridges, today has been cloudy and so much cooler, it’s been blissful.

I haven’t drunk alcohol for around 20 years as I have IBS and it aggravates it something rotten.

Is your shaking visible? Mine tends to be an actual weak and shaky feeling rather than visible shaking. Having said that my dad has had a shaky hand for decades and his dad had the same thing. They never sought medical advice over it but maybe theirs was something like essential tremor? Maybe my issues are related?

I feel shaky on the inside mostly but sometimes when it’s really hot and I get it really bad you can actually see my fingers shake. It’s just a thought, it might not be that but it’s worth getting it checked out if it’s affecting you

Grownyourownway · 22/05/2024 08:44

Pibolar I think that it may be worth just getting it checked out.
