Mysterious writing under wallpaper - what does it mean?

Having a bedroom redecorated and the decorator has stripped the wallpaper to find these mysterious messages! Pat Tate could obviously just be someone's name (although it wasn't the surname of the people we bought the house from, or as far as I can find out, previous owners), and a quick Google says was a drug dealer who was murdered and whose story was then fictionalised see here.

But no idea what the other wording means - could be "but I'm also anchormam" or "but I'm also anchorm am". Or a spelling mistake for "anchorman"?

Any ideas?!

I've often wondered what the people who bought my childhood home must have thought when they redecorated. When I was between 7-9, I was obsessed with drawing horses and I was allowed to draw on the walls when my parents redecorated. Except I then went through a phase of drawing stallions with really enormous willies. I can still remember being told not to draw any more on the walls when my dad was redecorating the hall, and getting up at about 6 in the morning and covering every wall with more of my masterpieces 😆😆😆

😁😁

There are a series of films anout Pat Tate called Rise of the Footsoldiers. Very violent and sweary, covers drug gangs in Essex and Marbella in the 80s and 90s till 3 were found murdered in a Range Rover.

Yes, that's what I found by googling, and the dates when this room might have been decorated (ie soon after the people we bought it from moved in) fit with being fairly soon after the convictions.

It says 'Anchorman' not Anchoram - possible a tv news anchor called Pat Tate -the Anchorman' wrote it.

I am so boring. When I decorated my last place, all I did was write the dimensions of the rooms, the size of spaces (eg, in alcoves and under the kitchen worktop) and the window measurements.

When I was a kid and my parents redecorated I wrote the words to the songs from a musical I had written (I still remember making my sister perform it with me, absolutely dreadful) on the bedroom wall before they papered. Drew a massive face on the bathroom wall in felt pen which then seeped though the new paper so it was always visible. Left little notes all the over house before we moved. They were all obscure quotes from the rocky horror show and I tried to make it look like they were written in blood.

If your at all worries phone 101 and let them know before tis decorated again. It may be nothing but as the time fits it could well be a clue to someone involved. Did you check the names of those arrested or the person who gave evidence against them. It may well be a clue to what happened so I wouldn't override it straight away.

If you scroll down on the Anchoram page there is a link to the Pat Tate ‘Villains Fandom’ page.

Treasures of the National Trust has an episode where they are trying to find/uncover what Paul Mcartney wrote on his loo wall when a teenager, possibly Lennon as well. They drew daft cartoons whilst on the toilet.

Spoiler alert is that forensic abilities to peel back layers of paint are as yet not advanced enough.

Also in that episode: wall paper libraries and a closed room.

No help to you OP but it was interesting!

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 23/05/2024 22:09

My sister and I wrote ‘I lost my virginity in this room’ and the date. We thought it was hilarious until our mum changed the wallpaper and saw it, believed it was true and we had to have a lecture about waiting until you are in a relationship and methods of contraception.

Bouliegirls · 23/05/2024 22:11

Years ago we wrote “bang bang you’re dead” on the wall. Also a poem about our uncle. We were 13

JustMeAndTheFish · 26/05/2024 08:34

I had to have some concrete replaced in my dining room floor last year where there had apparently been an old range cooker years ago.
If was perfectly coffin shaped so I wrote RIP on the “coffin”. So childish 🤣🤣
