Burnt rhubarb on pan!

Waaaaaah!

I was softening fruit for apple and rhubarb crumble and I got distracted by the telly- for an hour!- and it has burnt to the bottom of the pan.

I've rescued the filling, the majority of it was fine, but I now can't lift the burnt bits from the pan.

I've soaked overnight and put it back on the hob this morning with boiling water and a dishwasher tablet. Some has lifted, but the rest is like concrete.

Any tips for getting the rest up?

Soak it with a dishwasher table or some biological washing powder and warm water. Just leave it overnight and it should come off.

Spray it with white vinegar and leave for an hour or two. Rinse, scour and repeat if necessary.

Never fails to work for my catastrophes. I have literally no sense of smell so end up with black saucepans several times a year 🤣😂

Wire wool is your friend here.

Thanks all. Will persevere!

This.
needs the bio action to eat away at the crust.

A can of full fat coke. Leave to soak

A cut lemon in water, bring to the boil and leave overnight

Take a dishwasher tablet - the solid kind - and wet it, then use it to scrub with.

Paracetamol tablets also work.

(coming from a former Home Economics technician who has cleaned A LOT of pots burnt by distracted school pupils)

Honestly if you don't need to get things cleaned for the next class, just leave it to soak and the burnt on muck will just lift off!

Sadly we’ve left things soaking for days before and they certainly haven’t lifted off. Burnt macaroni is a killer - trust me!

sunlovingcriminal · 21/05/2024 10:05

It's all off! Thank you. I was more patient and left a dishwasher tab in the pan on a gentle simmer, and pretty much all lifted off, with the last bits coming up with the wire scourer! All is good with the world yet again 😊

They do with bio washing powder or a dishwasher tablet

Good for you! I was going to suggest biological washing powder, too.
