Anyone else feel like this after a Holiday

Not so much the holiday, that was brilliant !
We didn't land til 3am, didn't get in til 4am and I've had about 2 hours sleep. I'm so so anxious today. I have shit loads of washing to do, 2 young babies to look after and I am so so tired !!
I hate night flights, they're awful, when you've two kids on your lap anyway, I was so jealous of the childless people or the ones with older kids sleeping 🤣

Your time will come when your babies are older and you can relax on a plane. Just be patient 😁. But yes as far as the anxiety goes I get this when I'm over tired and have traveled from once place to another. I got it last year after a week in Cornwall. I've no idea why I get it but it passes over after a day or so.

Thanks @susiedaisy1912
Honestly I got off the plane, got the bags, went outside and started tearing up I felt so so sick with dread, it's an awful feeling isn't it !!
Tiredness really doesn't help.
It's like that horrible feeling when younger and been up all night on the session and the birds start tweeting and it's getting light 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣

Sounds obvious but don’t book night flights!!

ladybirdsanchez · 18/05/2024 13:42

When our kids were little we always sucked it up and paid the extra for nice time flights. When kids are older (and more expensive to take!) you can do the cheaper flights, but when you've got babies, just be kind to yourselves. It's hard enough without having horrible flight times.

Tbh I will happily fly with my baby but I would never book flights at those times, I'd rather not go on holiday than fly in the middle of the night! Just too hard with little ones. I appreciate that's not helpful now but maybe next time it will help!

Crikeyalmighty · 18/05/2024 13:58

Our son is no longer at home but we still don't go on holidays with shit flight times- we just do weeks rather than 10 days or 10 days rather than 2 weeks etc and pay for good flight times (if available of course) plus emergency exits- and we are lucky enough of course not to need school hols- to be fair we did no holidays abroad with son when he was under 4 and not that many up to 8 -

Its one of the reasons we don't do packages as a lot have awful flight times.

I pay for a laundry service two days before I come home, so only have a couple of days washing. Depending on where you are, it can only cost around £50 and it is sooooo worth it. Even if we're Eurocamping I do washing there and bring it home clean. Also book a home food delivery about two hours after I get home. I'm always exhausted going on holiday after the prep, so I make coming home as workfree as possible.

Nightflights are a bastard though even as an adult I try to swerve them!

anxiousasfuck · 18/05/2024 14:13

The flights going out were good and I did pay an extra £200 I think it was but couldn't really justify it coming back... at the time though you're just excited for the holiday and don't think about it !

Didn't help we had a 90 min delay due to air traffic failure in France (this fucked us last year 🤣🤣) I think I might be cursed !!

Are you on your own ? ( if not , shifts in bed whilst the other does the childcare )

Put the telly on with something the kids will watch and put it in repeat

Funkyslippers · 18/05/2024 14:33

It's such a downer coming back off holiday regardless of anything else. Be kind to yourself this weekend & drink your favourite drink & eat your favourite food ☺️

CatSucker · 18/05/2024 14:35

I never ever fly so late. I feel awful the next day, you’re more chance of being delayed too. And it was a definite hard no when the kids were smaller. Did it plenty of times when I was young when I didn’t care but now, not a chance.

mondaytosunday · 18/05/2024 14:39

I would never fly those hours - bad enough I had 5.45am flights to Spain for years (only flights from London to that particular airport). This year I decided not to go through that even though flying on my own so am going to an airport twice as far away from my destination- but it leaves here at 12.25pm, so that's the trade off.
Frankly I just wouldn't go if it required flying the times you mention.

Ladyj84 · 18/05/2024 14:46

With 3 toddlers always go for decent flights or would rather not go lol

WallaceinAnderland · 18/05/2024 14:49

I always plan a recovery day after getting back. It's not the holiday, it's the travelling so you and your partner should take an extra day off work and take turns to catch up on sleep.

When mine were little flights strictly had to be between 8am and 7pm.
Not interested in booking anything outwith those times as so stressful it ruined the holiday

WonderingWanda · 18/05/2024 15:08

Nothings going to happen if you leave the washing in the suitcases and do it when you're less knackered.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/05/2024 15:15

Give yourself a break and leave the washing at least until you’ve had a night’s sleep. Do the easiest thing possible to entertain the kids and if you can get them to all nap at the same time then you nap too.
