What do you for work to work around family life?

Can I ask what you do for work if you don't work full time?

We currently live in south west London and are moving further out to buy our first family home, DP and 2DS. The eldest will be starting primary in sept and the youngest is 2.5.

The intention was to move and for me to find something more local as the commute will be quite long and tbh I really don't love my job - time for a fresh start.

I'd love something to fit around the school term times/ drop off pick ups, or something full time but with a bit of flex to work from home.

I'm the higher earner (just)and don't want to leave us short. With some I'll health over the past few years I just want to be able to be at home some more now and enjoy the kids some more.

I work for a local authority and I can work my hours round the kids school times.

I work in healthcare. I earn £16 hrly.
I work 2 days during the week 8am -4pm.
& alternate weekends 8am - 8pm.
my eldest just started high school which is just over the road from our home. He walks & the school offer a free breakfast club & free clubs after school.
My middle child is in year 5, we rely on breakfast club and after school club for her. (£200 monthly)
My youngest (18 month old) goes to nursery on the 2 days I work. With the 15hrs free which covers one full day throughout the year (£300 monthly)

Sometimes I think I work to pay for childcare. But it shows our children a good work ethic & that we have to work in order to have nice things.

Hope this helped xx

When DC were at primary I worked in a school in a pastoral role. I went up the ranks quite quickly to head of department, earned well for this, the same as teachers.

I work in consultancy and have flexibility to work from home a couple of days a week and also to work my hours when I want each day to allow for some pick ups and drop offs. The flexibility works both ways though as I have to work extra including on my day off sometimes if the client needs it but I’m pretty happy with the balance.

Lots of wfh jobs in the charity sector with good employers who support flexible working including doing the school run.
