Help me narrow down packing my shoes for turkey please

So I am going on a package holiday to Turkey soon. I haven't been on a package holiday abroad for years. I plan to pack mostly shorts and dresses and my swimming costume. Anyway I'm stuck on shoes. I have flip flops (quite old) for the beach, and flip flops atleast 2 for the dresses in the evenings. I also have nice sandals light brown for dresses or shorts and what I call 2 pairs of old lady sandals as in hot weather my feet and ankles swell massively and they are comfy and the straps can be adjusted. I have more shoes than that I can't take all these shoes can I? What do I do? Any suggestions anyone please? My husband also thinks I should pack or wear canvas shoes or trainers in case we go on daytrips

I would wear lace up canvas shoes/trainers on the flight out, so you can have those for day trips (loosen laces if feet swell).

If take a pair of flip flops for the pool and beach, and one pair of lovely sandals for evenings.

And that’s all I’d take. I’d probably chuck the old flip flops in the bin before heading home, maybe pick up a pair of pretty sandals in a local market as a souvenir during the vacation.

Justmuddlingalong · 17/05/2024 11:10

Don't take 3 pairs of flip flops if they've all got toe posts. From experience, you'll get a blister and will be unable to wear any of them.
I'd take flip flops, the brown sandals and a pair of the comfy adjustable sandals.

MiddleAgedDread · 17/05/2024 11:10

That sounds like a lot of sandals to me! I'd travel in canvas shoes or trainers and use them for any significant amount of walking or day trips, take a pair of beach / pool flipflops and a pair of sandals for the evenings. Maybe one other pair of sandals that are comfortable to walk around in (as in more walking than just going down to dinner in your hotel).

I'm going to Turkey in the summer too and I plan on taking a pair of crocs type things for the pool and beach and a new white pair of superga, that's it.
Superga go with everything, shirts trousers dresses and will also be my travelling shoes.

amylou8 · 17/05/2024 11:27

Travel in something more substainal, trainers, pumps or deck shoes. Turkey can be quite dirty and dusty on the pavements if you're walking around. Pair of flip flops for the pool and some sandals for the evening. You'll probably buy another 5 pairs out there on the market anyway!!

Coolblur · 17/05/2024 11:29

I once took 11 pairs of shoes on holiday. I wore some fancy flip flops on the first day, walked further than planned, got a blister which promptly became infected, making my foot swell massively, ended up on strong painkillers and antibiotics, and could only wear trainers for the rest of the holiday! I learnt my lesson.

Take shoes you can walk a lot in (trainers/comfy sandals), flip flops for the pool, and nice shoes/sparkly sandals that go with everything for the evening. That's all you need.
Have a lovely holiday!

Thank you all. I'm quite an anxious person lately made worse by the menopause I think. I'm worrying about so many aspects of this trip and wondering if with all the worrying it'll be worth it. I'm organising all of it and I hadn't even booked a packaged holiday online before. That's how long it's been. I don't want to overpack because I want space for souvenirs

I travel in trainers take one pair of flip flops for the pool/beach and a black and brown pair of sandals for evenings

SpringerFall · 17/05/2024 11:33

Whatever won't effect the your feet for the rest of the holiday, so all practical

Can't comment on flip-flops as I can't walk in them

NannyGythaOgg · 17/05/2024 11:39

As others have said;
Travel in some sort of trainers, that you can also use for trips.
Flip flops for the pool/beach
One pair of sandals for the evening - neutral coloured. Fairly flat as in some places there roads/paths are a bit rough.
Or you could get a pair of these and they will do for both pool and evening. (And are surprisingly comfortable)

I travel in trainers then take white Birkies and white flatform sandals and they all seem to work with everything.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 17/05/2024 11:57

I wouldn't bother with trainers. But I wouldn't do any day trips/yomping that a pair of old lady sandals wouldn't be robust enough for.

2 pairs of tidy/evening sandals, sensible sandals for walking, 1 pair of flip flops for by the pool. That would be enough for me.

What are birkies?

OP posts:
ApolloandDaphne · 17/05/2024 11:58

Birkenstocks. They work for the poolside and also with dresses, shirts and linen trousers etc.

Peonies12 · 17/05/2024 11:59

I'm off this weekend - I'm wearing trainers on the plane, packed Birkenstocks, 1 pair flip flops and 1 pair nice sandals for evenings.

TheFairyCaravan · 17/05/2024 12:00

I travel in trainers. Flip flops for the pool and a pair of sandals and ballet flats for evening.

PhuckyNell · 17/05/2024 12:03

Have a great holiday but give over with the old lady sandals. There's no such thing!

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/05/2024 12:05

If I am going somewhere hot I just wear a pair of well broken in birkenstocks.

That is it for my holiday shoes.

Thank you. I feel old in them. My feet swell so much. They have adjustable velcro and they are comfortable for walking but not really stylish more comfortable

Trainers for travelling in ( take up too much room in a case) and for walking around in when not at the pool or beach.

flip flops or slider type shoes for around the pool/ beach

a pair of comfy sandals for evening and anything else you need them for.

Don't wear the same shoes all day. Your feet will be more comfortable and the shoes will be able to breathe.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 17/05/2024 12:13

Travel in trainers, flip flops for the beach and 2 pairs of sandals for evening.

reluctantbrit · 17/05/2024 12:19

I hate flip flops so I take my Birkenstock, a pair of flat but still dressy sandals and trainers/hiking shoes which I wear on the flight and are utterly comfortable.

We do a lot of excursions and I found that sweaty feet and sandals can mean blisters or rubbed skin so the trainers are better.

Ginkypig · 17/05/2024 13:44

Like everyone has said

wear a substantial shoe or trainers out so you have them for any trips etc.
pair of sliders (no toe post for me!!!) for pool & beach.
Pair of comfy but fancier shoes for evenings but a pair that don’t take up loads of space so no massive wedges etc.
that should leave room for your old lady sandals (as you call them 😂) as they can emotional support shoes as a back up in case your feet swell and you seem anxious at not having them which is completely fine so it might take that away if you have them with you.

that’s a total of 4 pairs but only 3 in the case.

also who gives a fuck what anyone think about what on your feet! Just wear whatever makes it as easy as possible to enjoy your holiday!
have a great time.
