Trampolines

Hello,

It's my DS's birthday in a couple of weeks, he'll be 4 but is very tall. He wants a trampoline for the garden and I'm trying to figure out which size would be best. He has a 2 year old brother who would definitely want to go on it at this same time with him.

Can anyone tell me which size would be best please? Any recommendations for a specific one would be great too.

TIA

I got my son a 6ft Techsport one from Smyths when he was around 6, he’s also tall. That fitted him well up until he was 8/9 then we got a 10ft one which he still uses aged 12.

Theyre pretty decent I reckon, not at all expensive. Not sure if they still sell them.

edit to add link. It’s like this one.

Buy the biggest one you have space for/can afford. It will get years of play.

When buying a trampoline the measurement is for the elastic bouncing bit not the full diameter we discovered when our eldest was 3!

10ft is what we got and that lasted us until the springs finally rusted and we refused to get a new net because they really had outgrown it and rarely used it, it lasted us just over 11 years so plenty of growing room and when they are smaller can have friends on at the same time.

We bought one for my son 10ft from Smyth's when he was 9 he's 13 now and 6ft and still uses it. My dd 8 loves it too and has her friends over to play on it.

Trampolines can be fab, but one of the main causes of trampoline-related injury is when children of different sizes bounce together! The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents recommends waiting until children are six years old. I'd hold off for a couple of years if I were you, but if you are set on it, have a look at their rules for safer use:

Get the largest one that you can, they'll use it for years. My DSC have finally consented to get rid of their trampoline - aged almost 16 and 18!!

Going on together at the same time is not advised - lots of people do but there are also lots of accidents.

Do not let more than one child on at a time. A child can “rebound” another one and send them flying. Plus the risk of them crashing into each other etc. especially a 2 year old who absolutely will come off worse.

recipe for broken bones.

also- be aware that toddlers may not have the head control. As pp said it’s better to wait until they are over 6. A relatively big head without the muscle control= neck injuries, even from normal use.
