Wisdom tooth removal - sedation experiences?

I have a lower wisdom tooth that needs removing but I am absolutely terrified of all things medical. Can anyone share their experiences of removal under sedation? It really messes with my mind not being in control, but being aware of what’s going on perhaps. I don’t think I can do it and I’m tempted to decline treatment.

I don't remember it at all. I remember being given the injections. I remember coming to when it was all over. Then they took me to a sofa to rest while my bf went to get a prescription of Antbiotics - can't remember why. But it might have been because I was travelling abroad 2 days later. Then he was back - i thought it was 2 minutes but apparently it was more like 30 mins. Then we went home and everything was fine. Albeit I did rest o n the sofa for the rest of the day
.....but I may have been milking it.
Honestly it was such an easy way to have them done.

Hi. I have had a wisdom tooth removed recently not under sedation. It was not awful. Was quite quick. Four injections for pain relief before some tugging then it was out! Good luck x

I had a tooth removed without sedation. I also hate anything medical. I was so nervous beforehand but it went fine

I got sedation but it made me feel worse so I had to come back and do it without the next time. It was just a drink though, it wasn’t iv. Without sedation I was actually fine, the worst bit was the numbing!

I had 4 wisdoms out under general at the hospital. All was fine except for waking up with tampons in my mouth and the irritating woman who sat near me in the 'nil by mouth' ward eating snacks out of a carrier bag. I really wanted to punch her. 😡

I’ve just had my final one out with sedation. I’m massively needle phobic so the worst part for me was having the cannulas inserted. Other than that it’s great! I was a bit sleepy the rest of the day but no long lasting effects like having a general. Slept through the entire thing and was home really quickly. Would 100% recommend sedation.

I had 3 of my wisdom teeth out under sedation a few months ago. I only have quite vague memories of it, I wasn't asleep but felt really relaxed through everything. I felt fine afterwards and they insisted in me getting a cab home which I begrudged paying for (as public transport wouldn't have cost me any extra because I have a pass). I wasn't drowsy and would have been fine on a bus, but I did get a cab. Had quite a swollen mouth afterwards but managed to get on with life as usual (am a sahm so no sick days for me).

I had all four out under sedation during covid believe it or not, I felt great afterwards much better than a general anesthetic! I even got a train home afterwards.

I'm due to have an extraction on the 29th under sedation OP. I suffer with panic disorder and that's the reason I was offered the sedation in the first place. But now I'm already panicking about the sedation lol.
I'm sure it will all go well. Most people say they'd rather be sedated than put to sleep

entervalidusername · 17/05/2024 01:26

Mines also bottom wisdom right side. But also getting pain from a cracked top wisdom left side so I'm tempted to ask them just to pull that at the same time

BourbonD · 17/05/2024 17:34

I don’t think I can handle it. Would much rather take a general anaesthetic because that way I know what to expect. Either way, I am terrified of cannulas in particular.

I had a bunch of fillings done under IV sedation and it was ace. I don’t remember a thing! I remember the dentist telling me to take deep breaths, then the next thing I know, she’s telling me she’s done, and I’m adamant she’d only just started! Then I went home, and had a lovely nap for a few hours.

I’m terrified of the dentist, and my experience helped me to tackle my phobia. I’m much less worried about it now, as I would always opt for treatment under sedation.

I had an impacted wisdom.tooth removed under sedation. I spent ages worrying about it.and it was actually fine, I had an injection and reme.ber counting and that was it next thing I was being chatted to by the dentist and him joking I'd given him my bank account details while I was asleep. I asked if it was all.ok when was he taking my tooth out and he said Its done!

I was a bit spaced out and could just about walk to the car immediate outside and was sleepy for the rest of the day but that was it. I worried longer then the actual procedure took

Tara336 · 17/05/2024 17:43

@BourbonD no cannula involved in mine, it was just an injection
