I was astonished to read these sailors are effectively being held on this ship! It’s been weeks.

Inhumane.

MV Dali stuck in the Patapsco

Still trapped on Baltimore ship, weeks after bridge collapse

Morale is low for the Dali's crew members, stranded on board by ongoing investigation into tragedy.

Jesus, it didn't even occur to me they would still be there!

Choice4567 · 15/05/2024 13:58

Oh my life that’s shocking! And they’re not even trapped on there, they’re just not being allowed off. Surely this goes against their human rights?

MaggieFS · 15/05/2024 13:59

I've just read the same article. Absolutely appalling. Still on the ships mobile phones removed. Horrendous.

MaggieFS · 15/05/2024 14:00

Seem to have an errant s at the end of ship instead of a comma 🤷‍♀️

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 15/05/2024 14:03

Wow, I had no idea. I thought they'd be off the ship in the first few hours.

Alwaystired23 · 15/05/2024 14:05

Absolutely awful. I never thought for a second that anyone would still be on the ship. I thought they would have been evacuated on the day it happened, in case of further issues, further debris falling, and to be checked they were not injured themselves?

cestlavielife · 15/05/2024 14:26

They have to keep crew on a ship which is anchor off shore . To monitor the ship.. but they could easily replace the crew. The crew monitors the ship's position and the anchor's holding capacity, adjusting the chain's length if necessary to ensure the ship remains secure. They might be running engines doing maintenance etc

MaggieFS · 15/05/2024 14:27

I think is a bit of a stretch to say it's at anchor!

afaloren · 15/05/2024 14:47

This is appalling and I am shocked. These aren’t illegal immigrants (not that I think it’s ok to treat anyone badly) they are workers who have gone through a trauma. And to confiscate their phones! Good god.

EmilyBronte82 · 15/05/2024 14:50

I do wonder if they were British or European what the attitude would be then? They are Indian, no communication. It’s beyond appalling.

I think is a bit of a stretch to say it's at anchor!

It s not just held in place by collapsed bridge. Will have dropped anchor so does not break loose. Point being they have to keep a few crew on board at all times but should be allowing some crew on and off on a rota

EmilyBronte82 · 15/05/2024 21:28

I think they need to take some off, rotate, there has to be others that know the ship?

They will need crew available for when they attempt to move the ship in the near future, also there will have been maintenance services to carry out in the weeks since the collision.

They are hoping to arrange limited shore leave once the ship has been moved to a safer position.

They have been given basic phones, so can make calls, but they don't have family photos for example. It's understandable that the authorities would want to know what the crew messages were immediately before and after the collision.
There are going to be lengthy legal battles in the not too distant future.
