Has anyone ever re-invented themselves?

Light hearted!

Just wondering if anyone has ever re-invented themselves?

Maybe lost a huge amount of weight? Got a drastic new hair cut or wardrobe. Or maybe you became a gym junkie or super fit? Maybe you were once an addict & are now clean. Or you didn't like your "image", so you changed it.... Just some examples I can think of, I'm sure there are others.

How did it work out for you?

I used to be an addict (heroin, crack, cocaine, amphetamine, alcohol, morphine, codeine) and homeless, working on the streets.
Now I'm clean and sober, living in a little flat with my daughter and my dog.

It took me over ten years and was very, very hard indeed (no family, no medical help or rehab) but here I am reincarnated as a very boring middle aged cleaner.

@BouleDeSuif what an amazing achievement!! Really well done to you x

No-one can beat that transformation @BouleDeSuif !! Well done for staging such a turnaround.

BouleDeSuif · 14/05/2024 15:51

@Pixilicious1 Grinthank you!

@NOTANUM ah thank you! Sometimes when I feel a bit fed up I remind myself how far I've come.

@BouleDeSuif that is amazing!

I decided 2 months before my 40th birthday I didn't want to be a fattie in my 40's. Lost 2 stones by my birthday and another 3 stones since.

Now train in the gym 6 times a week and do 3-4 classes. Changed my life completely.

I got super fit in my 50s. Always slim & fit but decided one day to see what I could really do & went for it.

I was a battered child. A 'good' child at school, A grades etc. I had no sense of self or personal style. I did what was expected of me, I was too scared to even start finding out who I actually was. I was sad and lost and an angry little shadow of who I could be.

Cut to therapy in my mid 20s and self help books, and I broke out of that mold 100%. I left my Oxford boyfriend, he bought me out of our house, I stopped straightening my hair, I got a tattoo, I started playing the guitar and singing, I completely changed my style of dress (developed my own style for the first time ever), changed my corporate career to charity work and cut off my abusive family.

Never been happier.

Awesome inspiration, well done everyone thanks for sharing.

I'd love to completely reinvent myself, but wouldn't have the first clue where to start or how!

Anorexic for over ten years ended up in hospital, in a shitty relationship and too anxious to even get on a bus or go to A&E after an accident, my tutor in the end made me go 2 days later, thankfully the delay wasn't serious.

Ended up in a psych hospital, I've been healthy for 10 years, married the most lovely man, started a new career and am seen as an extrovert and social person. I rebuilt my relationships with family and made new friends.

I finally feel alive.

WinchSparkle80 · 14/05/2024 19:46

@BouleDeSuif Well Done to you, a true inspiration.

@something2say At the age of 43 this is still me, what a fabulous transformation.

@mytimetogetstrong This is fantastic- I really want to do this.

@ItsFreedomBabyYeah Would love to do the same. God knows how though 🤣

something2say · 14/05/2024 20:30

@ItsFreedomBabyYeah I think you start at the end point and work your way backwards from there.

Getting started is the first step, in tiny ways, and it helps to know what you're aiming for.
