With the price of everything going on
could you make £20 last you daily?
family of 4 two adults 2 children under 7?

Is this food or food / fuel / utility bills?

MissingMoominMamma · 14/05/2024 11:28

No, or at least it would be extremely difficult.

Moier · 14/05/2024 11:28

For what?
Just food is very doable.
Not sure if you mean other things on top?

Overthebow · 14/05/2024 11:28

For what?

Riverlee · 14/05/2024 11:28

What are you sending it on?

PuttingDownRoots · 14/05/2024 11:33

Yes I could get the food shopping (including toiletries and cleaning stuff) under £100 per week.

Add on transport, housing, and utilities... no I couldn't get those for the other £40.

Needmorelego · 14/05/2024 11:36

Does this include rent, bills, transport etc or just food.
If just food then yes £20 is fine.

Missindependent007 · 14/05/2024 11:37

For food only then yes will last for maybe one week though. But including toiletries and cleaning products probably not.

Caterina99 · 14/05/2024 11:39

To spend on what?

I could definitely do a weeks shopping, every meal included for 4 people for £140

But if I had to factor in petrol and bills and all that other stuff, then no chance could we live on that!

YoureStuckOnMeLikeATattoohoohoo · 14/05/2024 11:40

For food, yes, that's loads actually. There have been times I've had 20 to last for a week of food and managed (although nutrition went out the window).

If it's for everything then I couldn't manage that.

lovelyGlow · 14/05/2024 11:40

Depends on what I need / already have.

Jeannne92 · 14/05/2024 11:43

Our rent is 74 Euros per day, before bills, so, no.

I don't believe we could find a place for 600 Euros per month even if we moved far away and DH and I slept in the living room (2 DC already share a room).

DoublePeonies · 14/05/2024 12:35

It really depends on what it needs to cover.
Rent and utilities? Not a chance.
Normal living? A third of it would dissappear on petrol to get to work. 100 on food would be doable, but not masses of fun (tho I'm basing this on 2 teens, so 2 primary kids could be fine).
But there wouldn't be much (anything) left for emergencies, school requests for money, or fun.

OTOH, if essentials are all covered, yes, absolutely £20 a day would be fine - although I'd probably spend 0 most days, and splash on a weekend.

Missindependent007 · 14/05/2024 14:52

Sorry, I just read £20 pounds daily, then yeah for food including cleaning products and toiletries.

HappyGoLucky96 · 14/05/2024 16:18

Sorry meant to say for food school lunch’s etc not incl gas and electricity

DrJonesIpresume · 14/05/2024 16:21

Food? Yes, no problem. It would be very basic no-frills stuff though.

BingoMarieHeeler · 14/05/2024 16:22

I haven’t spent anything today so yes if I didn’t have to do a food shop. Could easily do school lunches on that.

FatfunandADHD · 14/05/2024 16:23

Yes it would be more than ample. That's £140 per week. I spend about £80 - £100 per week to feed 2 adults and 3 children. They all have packed lunches each day and me and DP take lunch into the office every day then a cooked meal at night.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 14/05/2024 16:24

For just food yes.

mynameiscalypso · 14/05/2024 16:24

Yes, I think I can be quite an extravagant shopper but I don't think I'd have much of a problem with this (so long as it didn't include household products like cleaning stuff). If you don't eat meat, it's a lot easier too.

Needmorelego · 14/05/2024 16:25

@HappyGoLucky96 for just food - yes £20 is fine.
I'd even have change.

Peclet · 14/05/2024 16:27

That’s a lot of ££ for the week. Of course that can feed everyone well!

TakeOnFlea · 14/05/2024 16:31

Well yeah 🤣 £20? Surely that's not an issue?

Growlybear83 · 14/05/2024 16:33

For all food, it would be quite easy.

Sprogonthetyne · 14/05/2024 16:41

So £140 for a weekly shop, that sounds quite comfortably doable. If the school lunches are casting a lot, might be better switching over to packed lunch, and getting better at taking food/snacks/after bottles out with you.
