... to their partner that they hadn't done something, but they had done it - and they then told you about it, could you ever forgive them?

Could you trust them with your children?

Won't drip feed and can't give more context here, except that it wasn't a life or death situation.

I absolutely hate that phrase. Usually means they're lying.

No it doesn’t

The only time a person has ever sworn on anyone's life to me was when my cheating ex boyfriend swore on his mum's life that he hadn't cheated on me he was sleeping around Hmm.

I agree that people who use this saying are probably lying. The one I can recall using it definitely was.

I don’t use it myself as I think it’s both stupid and disgusting.

How does swearing on someone's life actually mean something? Sure i know the expression but all this sounds a little over the top

It's the kind of thing most people stop doing by their mid-teens -- you know those melodramatic teenage conversations where you are at loggerheads with someone and saying (with appropriate actions) 'I SWEAR I'm telling you the truth, Zoe. Cross my heart and hope to die! I swear on my mother's life!'

It means nothing, just some words to get out of an awkward situation.
