Woo hoo! Just been offered a fully remote job!

Taken over a year of job hunting. Just about to give up to be quite honest! Thought that I may never work again! Family responsibilities mean that I can only WFH.

I had to leave my last job due to an issue with a bullying work colleague and enforced requirement to be in the office 80% of the time after previously being remote.

I just cannot believe I got it.

Celebrate with me!

Many congratulations op! That’s really great news after your awful experience in your previous job. Very well done for sticking with it!

Do you mind me asking very roughly what field it is in?

Family responsibilities mean that I can only WFH

Can I ask what you mean by this and if you were transparent with your new employer?

I'm not being facetious, I am fully WFH and am a single parent to 3 primary age DC but I do worry that colleagues think I take the piss (my DC are with grandparents after school / holidays or in clubs, but I do occasionally take an early lunch to attend something at the school or medical appointments for my youngest who is disabled)

I only ever have them home with me if they're ill or the rare occasion childcare falls through.

I am lucky this is how it panned out though as I couldn't imagine negotiating such flexibility.

Crunchymum · 13/05/2024 19:22

And of course congratulations 🎊

Thank you. It’s an international co and role is in business support. Extremely lucky to get it as quite senior compared to my last role.

These roles are few and far between as most are hybrid now so I’m over the moon! I have an older DC with SN who needs someone around (not so much for care as for making sure they got home OK and have a presence in the house) so this is the only way I can feasibly work.

Such a bummer that people like me, and even those with disabilities themselves that make it hard to work in an office, have much fewer opportunities that fully remote jobs afforded during and directly after COVID.

Maybe something Rishi needs to bear in mind if he wants to get disabled and older people back into work!

Really hope others have similar luck.

DH is home now with Champers!

Thank you for all the congrats x

I have an older teen with ASD who’s been in and out of education for quite a few years and has some mental health issues. Over the last few years, they have only had minimal support a few days a week at different times so not in college 9-3. There are no personal care needs, just general supervision and someone making sure they get to where they need to be and get back OK. Making lunch etc or they won’t eat etc. Job has been clear there is flexibility which may be needed for occasional appointments and I can make up time in the eves. Not an issue with last job so I don’t expect it to be in this one.

Well done on hanging in there with the search, congratulations!!

Can I ask where you found the vacancy - may or may not be in a slightly similar position!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 13/05/2024 19:59

Congratulations!!! 🎉

LoobyDop · 13/05/2024 20:08

Congratulations! Make sure it’s actually contractual- that your place of work shows as remote/home-based and it’s not “technically” an office- you don’t want to be left with no option if they have a change of policy and suddenly demand that you go in three times a week.
