It's for Mental Health week awareness isn't it?

And additional advertising, obviously.

Sprogonthetyne · 13/05/2024 17:46

Well it is an important message, but kind of needs more context. Is this part of a wider campaign they're doing?

ZipZapZoom · 13/05/2024 17:49

It's part of a campaign for mental health week and apparently comes with emotion stickers to decorate the box.

Yes it will garner some media attention and in part done for advertising but I think it's quite nice they have made the effort to do something and hope it starts a few conversations.

Hermittrismegistus · 13/05/2024 17:50

Well that's fucking depressing.

Not quite 'obviously' though is it.

Exactly!!!

Well that's fucking depressing.

Why?

BiggerBoat1 · 13/05/2024 17:51

That’s good. Subtle but a good message. I presume it’s for mental health awareness week.

TTPD · 13/05/2024 17:52

Hermittrismegistus · 13/05/2024 17:50

Well that's fucking depressing.

Is it? Why is it depressing that it's fine to not be happy all the time? Seems like a fairly obvious fact tbh.

ZipZapZoom · 13/05/2024 17:53

LilyXoxox · 13/05/2024 17:50

Exactly!!!

Why is it depressing? It's a subtle way to start a conversation and anyone who thinks it's depressing can surely just forego a McDonald's for the 1 week the boxes look like this.

BeyondMyWits · 13/05/2024 17:53

I love it.

Have always said to my kids "it is OK to not be ok", "you don't have to be happy", "You don't have to pretend to be happy" etc.

Much better mental health wise for them to let people help them rather than wear a constant mask.

Spottedshell · 13/05/2024 17:55

LilyXoxox · 13/05/2024 17:50

Not quite 'obviously' though is it.

Well I thought that the discussions around it (like this thread) would be obvious advertising for Happy Meals but ok.

Hermittrismegistus · 13/05/2024 17:55

Why?

Because it's supposed to be a Happy meal.

buttonsarecute · 13/05/2024 17:57

Well it's worked it's started a conversation

Still think it's stupid on a happy meal box though. Parents should be checking in on their children's mental health and shouldn't need a prompt to do so surely that's just basic parenting

LightDrizzle · 13/05/2024 17:58

I think that’s good!

Even young children are picking up on the SM/ lifestyle media fuelled idea that unless your every waking moment is joyful and impactful that you are failing at life and possibly a contagious loser.

Life has lots of boring bits and hard work and some unavoidable sadness. It really is okay and normal not to be happy all the time.

Mihijita · 13/05/2024 17:58

Hermittrismegistus · 13/05/2024 17:50

Well that's fucking depressing.

😂how on earth is that depressing?

stayathomer · 13/05/2024 17:59

You go into McDonald’s to cheer people up, there’s a time and a place for this stuff and I hugely disagree that a family fast food outlet is the place for it. My son has an extremely blue personality at times- we discuss and talk things out A LOT. If he saw this in McDonald’s we’d have one of those talks and he’d possibly get teary

LilyXoxox · 13/05/2024 17:59

I must admit I didn’t realise what it was for. Just thought it was abit gloomy to look at when receiving the order for my 6year old who has no clue.

HauntedPencil · 13/05/2024 17:59

It's hardly depressing. I can't see the harm in it.

SpentAll · 13/05/2024 18:00

It affected my mental health when I had to wait ages outside the gym to collect DS as he couldn’t get out because he was being spoken at by people wanting to talk about mental health week.

Damnloginpopup · 13/05/2024 18:00

Hey kids, it's fine to languish in misery!

Fuck's sake. When's resilience week?

SpentAll · 13/05/2024 18:00

😂😂😂

jannier · 13/05/2024 18:02

It's working people are talking.

Noname1000 · 13/05/2024 18:02

Hermittrismegistus · 13/05/2024 17:55

Why?

Because it's supposed to be a Happy meal.

And isn't that the point? That even though it's a happy meal that sometimes it's okay not to be happy?

Favouritefruits · 13/05/2024 18:03

I think the only problem with it is that kids under 7 will not read the box or understand the message so it’s a bit pointless. They’ll be too busy tucking into their chips and looking at their toy to bother asking about the message on a box.
