Naïve Legoland question - bags?

We're doing a first time trip to Legoland in the May school holidays (pray for us) - several adults and several children aged from 4-12. Day trips with kids always seem to involve bringing everything plus the kitchen sink; water bottles, all the snacks, wipes, suncream, hats, change of clothes, potentially coats because UK weather. I understand there's a big splash area and rides that involve getting wet, so maybe swim gear, towels, extra changes of clothes. Probably a picnic to avoid the £££ price of park food. So this is going to need some hefty bags for the adults to cart around. What do you do on the rides - do you leave one adult on a bench somewhere with all the bags, or is there anywhere to leave them? I hear there are small lockers but they're £1 a go every time you unlock them, so impractical for having things like water bottles in.

Also is it ridiculous to consider getting one of those granny shopping bags on wheels or a folding festival trolley or something to cart it around in. Do people do that?

Each adult just needs to take a medium sized rucksack with them. That's what I always did.

wait until you know the forecast

We used to take a roller picnic bag (Titan) or even my old pram and put all the bags in it to wheel it around (but then my son used to get so embarrassed by that) 🤣 and just left them by the edge of the ride / pram park area by the railings. Loads of people leave stuff as ride queues can be very long depending on your patience 🤣

Most rides are pretty tame and you can put a small/medium sized rucksack by your feet. The one or two rides where you can’t (probably just the Dragon rollercoaster?) you can leave it on the side where you get off, to pick up on your way out.

how many children
how many adults

We take a backpack per adult, don’t take a picnic since we stopped needing a buggy exactly because we don’t want to carry it around all day. If you have a buggy, then put stuff under it or on it on a hook. Backpacks have coats (if it’s warm and you don’t want to carry, take a poncho each instead?), drinks, few small snacks for the kids and anything else needed.

A roller picnic bag sounds like an excellent idea for the picnic - otherwise it was could we stuff a cool bag/box into a wheelie bag. Science already had the answer, put the picnic bag on wheels!

People don't generally have trolleys.

If they want to go on the water rides (and many don't) wear a swimsuit under shorts etc. if you want a towel take a microfibres towel.

People mostly just walk around wet afterwards and rely on the sun to dry them off although there are a couple of hot air machines.

Take pac a Mac a in case it rains - you just want a light waterproof layer not a full on heavy jacket.

Ah that's potentially handy - was thinking even if we took a big wheelie bag for the bulky stuff, we'd still be wanting some smaller daysack type bags for water bottles and snacks. I'd figured you weren't allowed anything on the rides, but perhaps that's more for Alton Towers level rollercoasters where you're thrown upside down than Legoland level! Probably best not to take them on the getting soaking wet rides though I guess...

Hi if it helps any Lego land have sunscreen stations dotted around so one less thing to carry - I know one is next to the splash park area. There are also water fountains to refill bottles. DS & I take a backpack each & are totally fine - hope you enjoy the day!

PuzzlingRecluse · 13/05/2024 12:50

Oh re wet rides we took our backpacks on the pirates log flume thing, tucked in at sides they were dry we were not!!!

Velvian · 13/05/2024 12:50

They have shelves next to the ride for rides that you can't take them on. Only the attendant/s will be left with the the bag while you are on the ride. We've always had rucksacks no problem.

TreetopWrappingArea · 13/05/2024 12:51

Yes pushchair or pull along of some variety. I seem to remember you can go back to car but it's miles so you probably don't want to. Used lockers once, they also are at one end of park and inevitably you are at other side when you want stuff.

So need a way to have your stuff with you - try and bring less, split between adults and/ or put on wheels.

Cattyisbatty · 13/05/2024 12:51

We did loads of Legoland when the kids were young as we had a pass. As others have said, rucksacks are fine. You would hopefully only need a light jacket each but I think you can take bags on most rides. We used to keep change of clothes in car for afterwards cos of wet rides like the Viking or log flume.
We mainly took picnic too - food was pretty grim. But you can buy snacks etc.

It's 4 adults, one of whom won't want to go on most of the rides, and a 4yo, 7yo and 12yo. But don't really want to make the not going on many rides person just the bag station on a bench all day. We'll probably be trying to switch it up with one or two adults with the littlie who isn't into the faster rides and others on the bigger rides with the older ones, swapping around through the day. We're also trying to assess how many and what level of the reserve and ride passes to buy to avoid spending the entire day stood in the queue lines.

Yep, last year I took DD by myself and took my backpack on pretty much every ride, including the log flume.

Both dragon rides you can leave it on the side, and no one can access that between rides because they don't let people there for safety reasons anyway.
