Progesterone only pill experience?

MishkaNorushka · 12/05/2024 22:13

Aged 45, on a combined pill, have been really struggling with PMS, and a bit of moodiness over last couple of years. GP suggested switching to mini-pill but I didn’t ask enough questions.

Today, I read accidentally that peri starts with drop in progesterone first and this is what causes hormonal imbalance. Oestrogen drop comes later, may be even a couple of year. Now, I think - would progesterone only pill help even out the balance, is this how it works?

Anyone switched and found it beneficial with similar symptoms?

I'm on a pop and 52 now. I genuinely believe it's stopping perimenopause hitting full force. I'm a naturally chilled person and have noticed mood changes but nothing like friends around me.
Worth a try.

I'm 46 and have been taking the progesterone only pill since I was 42.

I haven't really noticed any perimenopause symptoms as yet, bar the occasional issue with painful joints, which seems to have abated since I started taking daily glucosamine

I was on POP from age 46 to 54. I stopped taking it to see if my periods had stopped and they had. I believe it helped me throught the worst of menopause and not having periods was a blessing. No side effects and i think it helped with my migraines too.

I'm entering peri. Have a coil but it's wearing off (clinic won't change it until it's been 6 years) so I was prescribed the POP to see if it stopped my periods. I last tried it when breastfeeding 15 years ago and it gave me severe anxiety. Unfortunately although it did stop my period the anxiety returned so I stopped after a month. I have no idea why the POP affects me that way, the coil didn't, but just be aware.

I'm on a POP, am 52 and started it when I was 45. No menopausal symptoms and, the nurse who carries out the annual pill check, said I'll 'probably sail through menopause without even knowing'.

Following- I have asked for the pop to try and help with my peri-menopause symptoms. I read about the decline in progesterone too.

I'm on the POP, 44 and have been on it since about 30 as can't have the combined due to migraines. I've had some peri symptoms but started HRT 4 months ago and it's made no difference, so maybe it's not peri, maybe I'm just a grumpy cow. 😂

I'm taking that pill as my periods were so heavy it was affecting my life and I was anaemic from bloody loss, had all sorts of things going on, vertigo etc. The pill works in that my périods mostly stopped but I missed à couple of pills last month. At the moment I'm in the middle of what seems like a 10 day on off period and suffering à lot of anxiety.

Any one else had those problems? Age 49 but Mum had her periods until 60 so ménopause may be late.

At the start of last year I had a random 6 weeks of bleeding on and off but then nothing since.
